Taxes on luxury and excess income of citizens may be introduced in Russia. State Duma deputy Sergei Mironov has put forward such an initiative, TASS reports.
"It is necessary to introduce two more personal income tax rates - 25% on income from 250 million to 500 million rubles per year, and above this ceiling - a rate of 35%. Second, to raise the tax on dividends to 35% - as for the tax on income from large winnings. Third, to introduce a luxury tax and/or a wealth tax," he explained.
Mironov is sure that Russian society has been waiting for such an approach from the authorities for a long time. In his opinion, the progressive scale of personal income tax introduced at the beginning of this year only concerns incomes up to 50 million rubles. For those who earn more, nothing has changed.
The parliamentarian warned that all sorts of experts will now start saying that high taxes for the super-rich are bad. They will allegedly start looking for ways around it. He noted that this has been happening since the very concept of taxes appeared. And all this time this problem has been solved, Mironov said.
Earlier, MK wrote that State Duma deputies had prepared a bill exempting pensioners and a number of privileged categories of citizens from paying property taxes for garden houses with an area of more than 50 square meters.
