State Duma deputy Georgy Arapov from the New People faction has proposed introducing an additional annual paid vacation of seven days. This was reported by the RIA Novosti agency.
This period, called "demographic week", is intended to help Russians restore their psychological state and create favorable conditions for making decisions about having children.
In his address to the Minister of Labor Anton Kotyakov, the parliamentarian noted the critical demographic situation in the country. According to the data, the total fertility rate in 2024 reached a historical minimum - 1.41 children per woman.
Arapov emphasized that chronic stress and fatigue often become reasons for postponing the birth of children. According to specialists in the field of reproductive medicine, many couples do not give up on parenthood completely, but postpone it due to a lack of emotional resources.
To implement the initiative, a tax deduction mechanism is proposed: employers will compensate for the costs of paying for such leave by reducing the income tax. This will allow businesses to be involved in demographic programs without additional financial burden.
Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Labor was asked to make the days from May 1 to 9 in the 2026 calendar days off .
