MEXICO CITY (apro) .- The coordinator of the PRI party in the Chamber of Deputies, Rubén Moreira, stated that the reform to increase the salaries of security personnel, teachers, and health workers has not been declared public in the Senate because the government does not have the money.

In an interview with the Senate, the tricolor legislator explained that if the reform isn't published, it won't be included in the budget and won't be implemented in 2026.

"Here she is, detained by Gerardo Fernández Noroña. It has already been published, and it has already been voted on in the Senate, the House of Representatives, and 31 legislatures," he declared.

"Well, someone is ordering it, and why isn't it published? Because there's no money, and if it's not published now, it means the budget estimates won't be made, and they won't be implemented in 2026."

The PRI representative emphasized that the salary increase was a political speech by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to win the elections.

The reform was unanimously approved by Congress on October 10, 2024, and establishes that the salaries of security personnel, teachers, and healthcare workers cannot be lower than the salary registered with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). Therefore, public servants will have to earn more than 16,777 pesos.

However, despite legislators reporting that it has already been approved in 32 states, the president of the Senate's Board of Directors, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, stated that they have already completed their work and are awaiting the votes of the remaining Congresses.
