Pirandello 2025, a journey between identity and destiny: Saturday at the Circolo Culturale Empedocleo

On Saturday 28 June 2025 at 6.15 pm, the Empedocleo Cultural Circle of Agrigento hosts an event as part of the Pirandello Stable Festival, directed by Mario Gaziano , TO celebrate the 158th anniversary of the birth of Luigi Pirandello (1867-1936), Nobel Prize winner from Agrigento, with the patronage of the Federico II Foundation and the participation of the regional deputy Serafina Marchetta, member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation itself.

On stage:

  • Lia Rocco , a historical Pirandello actress, will play some of the most famous Pirandello female figures, underlining the common thread that links them to the models of tragedy and Hellenic classicism.
  • Giugiù Gramaglia , Alfonso Marchica and Giuseppe Gramaglia , actors with long experience, will bring on stage a gallery of Pirandello characters, enriching the evening with their interpretations also matured in international contexts (Malta, Oslo, Stockholm, Slovenia).
  • Antonio Zarcone , master of popular songs and traditions, will offer a repertoire of Sicilian popular songs with a strong Pirandello influence, continuing his mission as custodian and innovator of the island's musical culture.
  • Riccardo Cacicia's folk trio will complete the evening with music that evokes the atmospheres of deep Sicily, in dialogue with Pirandello's themes.

The celebration will be enriched by video documents, illustrations and moments of reflection, in a formula that alternates recitations, songs and historical narration, proposing a new edition of the format "Pirandello Classico tra Grecia e Magna Grecia". Mario Gaziano's cultural project fully interprets this vocation, offering a meeting space between Pirandello's memory, Greek classicism and the vitality of Sicilian popular culture. Admission is free until all seats are taken, confirming the inclusive vocation of the festival and the desire to involve the Agrigento community and the numerous visitors expected for the year as Capital of Culture.

“The celebration, between recitations and songs, video-documents and illustrations, proposes the new edition of Pirandello Classico tra Grecia e Magna Grecia. All artists who with Mario Gaziano have brought Pirandello’s words to the world.”
