The weekend of June 28 and 29 marks the first peak of JazzAscona 2025, with two days packed with music, energy and unmissable events including jazz, funk, gospel, dance and entertainment.
SATURDAY 28 JUNE Elina Duni awarded with the Swiss Jazz Award 2025. But also funk, Balkan brass and the Army Big Band
On Saturday 28 June , the festival comes to life with an evening celebrating the talent and variety of musical languages. The highlight will be the presentation of the Swiss Jazz Award 2025 to Elina Duni (9.45 pm, Stage Seven): the Swiss-Albanian singer-songwriter will enchant the audience with her refined blend of jazz, Mediterranean folk and poetry. The evening also features overwhelming rhythms: at 8 pm the Swiss Armed Forces Big Band brings great orchestral jazz to the stage, followed by the powerful funk of Radius (10.30 pm) and the explosive Balkan fanfare of Traktorkestar (11 pm).
During the day, there will also be space for other sounds and atmospheres. Among the many events, we would like to point out, at 12.30 at the Bistrot Otello , Mauro Pesenti and the accordionist Danilo Boggini , at 18.30 on the lakeside the burlesque workshop by Mizi Mia Grand Ame and two refined musical events at the Eden Roc Marina with the Claus Raible Trio ( 18.30) and with European Songbook with Lia Pale & Mathias Rüegg , which blends jazz and classical music. Outside Ascona, noteworthy at 18.00 is the Handmade Moments concert on the school square in Vira Gambarogno.
SUNDAY 29 JUNE Jazz cruises on the lake and an explosion of gospel, dance and emotions
On Sunday 29 June, the festival opens with the Musical Lunches at the Blue Llama Terrace and continues with a day full of emotions. Highlights include the traditional gospel concert with Bazil Meade and Alberto Marsico (5:00 pm, Chiesa del Collegio Papio), the screening of the film “ Misty ” about Erroll Garner or the Shim Sham dance workshop with Tony Buonadancer (6:30 pm on the lakeside). The evening will culminate with Cristen “Ten” Spencer , Radius at their second show, and the award ceremony of the Ascona Big Band (AET My Choice 2024 Audience Award).
Two concerts outside Ascona: at 2.30 pm at the Brissago Islands with Handmade Moments, and at 8 pm in Vairano with the Trombone Shorty Foundation Brass Band.
Also noteworthy – new this year – are the three jazz cruises organized in collaboration with Verbano 26. The first departs from Locarno at 18:30 and arrives in Ascona at 19:45. The return to Locarno is scheduled for 23:45. The other two are circular cruises departing (at 20:15 and 22:30) from Ascona and returning after about an hour. On board, the Jungle Jazz Band. Tickets can be purchased directly at the boarding point.
