The Red Cross celebrates 110 years of humanitarian service in Colombia

As part of its 110th anniversary celebration, the Colombian Red Cross celebrates more than a century of uninterrupted humanitarian service, reaffirming its commitment to the lives, dignity , and well-being of millions of people throughout the country.
This commemoration, under the theme "A humanitarian legacy that transforms lives," honors the story of thousands of volunteers and collaborators who, with solidarity and conviction, have responded to the country's most pressing humanitarian challenges, the Red Cross explains in a statement.

"Thanks to the work of more than 20,000 volunteers and collaborators and the support of the 31 branches, during 2024 the institution benefited more than 3 million people with health interventions, psychosocial assistance, access to safe water, risk management, support for communities affected by emergencies and disasters, and accompaniment to people on the move and affected by violence," the institution indicates.
During that year, the Colombian Red Cross responded to more than 1,263 emergencies, delivered more than 750,000 humanitarian aid packages—including food, hygiene, health, and shelter kits—and invested more than 47 billion pesos in direct assistance, thanks to the trust of its donors, allies, and cooperation agencies.
“Each of these actions is a concrete expression of our mission to protect life and alleviate human suffering without distinction. In 110 years, we have been present during the most difficult moments in the country's history, supporting those most in need, transforming pain into hope, and building more resilient communities ,” says Dr. Judith Carvajal de Álvarez, National President of the Colombian Red Cross.
The Colombian Red Cross commemorates another anniversary by reaffirming its commitment to the country. With a strategy focused on humanitarian innovation, community engagement, diversity, and sustainability, the organization announced it is looking to the future with the goal of expanding its reach and generating a greater impact in the most vulnerable communities.
