Minister of Education, Daniel Rojas, failed his master's thesis; U. Nacional explained the reasons

This Wednesday, February 26, it was learned that the current Minister of Education, José Daniel Rojas Medellín , failed his master's thesis defense at the National University of Colombia.

The study, entitled "Relevance and effects of a guaranteed work program in Colombia," was presented last Tuesday at noon to a committee at the university's Faculty of Economic Sciences.

After Rojas' story became known, the institution issued a statement on the matter, pointing out that the work "presented weaknesses in terms of theory and conceptual rigor."

EL TIEMPO learned that while the evaluation was taking place, the Minister of Education did not correctly answer the questions asked by the tribunal composed of distinguished academics who played their role as jurors, including Álvaro Martín, Iván Velásquez, among other teachers.

The questions from the judges were not satisfactorily answered by the student.

According to the dean's office, it is normal for events like this to occur within the institution "when the document does not meet the quality requirements of a university of excellence."

Now, Daniel Rojas, the current Minister of Education, has different options, since the National University of Colombia offered him two solutions: rewrite the document or change the subject.

"In this case, the student has the option of rewriting his or her document to correct the deficiencies , or of changing his or her thesis topic if he or she considers it appropriate, all of which is subject to the University's regulations," the institution assured.
