Telemadrid recognizes Morante and Frenoso as winners of San Isidro
Telemadrid has broadcast the verdicts for its 23rd Bullfighting Awards . The Madrid network, which this year broadcast the entire San Isidro Fair for the first time, with record-breaking audience figures, recognized Morante de la Puebla and Frenoso, by Victoriano del Río, as the best bullfighter and best bull.
The award to the cigar maker is due to " his genius at a historic fair ", due to the importance of what he achieved in the ring on his two afternoons: the first, in the Corrida de la Prensa, on May 28 , he performed one of his best tasks with the first bull of the afternoon, Seminarista, from Gacigrande. Only the sword stood between José Antonio and a main gate that did open the following afternoon, on June 8, in the Corrida de Beneficencia . With Sacristán and Lírico, by Juan Pedro Domecq, Morante was able to fulfill his dream of leaving through the main gate . And he did so in an exit on shoulders of enormous passion rarely seen on the part of the fans, most of whom were very young.
Fernando Adrián was also on the bill at the Beneficencia bullfight, whose turn it was to fight and kill Frenoso , albeit on a different afternoon. It was on May 16th, a bullfight from Puerto de San Lorenzo 'patched' by Victoriano del Río . This 559-kilo bull came in fifth place, with outstanding " bravery, dedication with the muleta, and the ability to go further with each charge ," which earned him the aforementioned honor. The sword prevented the Madrid bullfighter from cutting off his ears.
The jury was composed of Carlos Novillo, Minister of Environment, Agriculture and the Interior of the Community of Madrid and President of the Board of the Madrid Center for Bullfighting Affairs; Miguel Martín, Managing Director of the Center for Bullfighting Affairs; Adolfo Suárez Illana; María Dolores de Cospedal; Carlos Ruiz Villasuso (Plaza 1); bullfighting journalists and critics Rosario Pérez (ABC), Vicente Zabala (El Mundo), Antonio Lorca (El País), Patricia Navarro (La Razón), Gonzalo Bienvenida, Marco Hierro (Cultoro), Javier Jiménez (Mundoro), Sixto Naranjo (Telemadrid); and Julio Martínez, director of "El Toril" (Onda Madrid), who acted as secretary.
