Winter bookings from Germany to Türkiye are also declining

According to Travel Data + Analytics ( TDA ) data , 13% of total monthly revenue in July 2025 came from last-minute bookings made in the same month, while 25% came from August departures. Adding in approximately one-third of autumn bookings, the current summer season accounts for 68% of total revenue.
According to a report by Cüneyt Yılmaz and Holger Jacobs of fvwTravelTalk, this rate is three percentage points lower than the same period last year. However, due to the bankruptcy of FTI Reisen in July 2024, many travelers were forced to book alternative holidays, leading to a dramatic increase in the market known as the "FTI effect." Therefore, a similar growth rate was not expected in the summer of 2025.
German market overviewThe 2025 summer season has been stable so far. Total revenue increased by 6 percent compared to the same period last year. Compared to the overall results for Summer 2024, the occupancy rate has now reached 93 percent (up from 84 percent the previous month). The number of holidaymakers booking is also almost the same as last year (up 1 percent).
In July, approximately one-fifth of monthly sales were for winter holidays in 2025/26. Winter bookings increased by only 2 percent compared to the same period last year. This increase was not enough to maintain the momentum previously achieved, with a two-point decrease compared to June. Despite this, the winter season is progressing with an 11 percent increase in revenue compared to last year.
Long-distance destinations are popularThe number of winter holiday travelers is 7 percent higher than last year. Demand for long-haul destinations is particularly noteworthy, with guest numbers for these destinations up 11 percent. The United Arab Emirates and Cape Verde are among the winter destinations with the strongest growth. Approximately one-fifth of winter holidaymakers are long-haul travelers, and a similar number have already booked cruise holidays.
Popular winter destinationsThe Canary Islands remain the clear leader in the winter season, with a 19% share. Egypt ranks second, and Greece is also seeing a notable increase in bookings thanks to season extensions. Turkey , despite being the fifth most-booked destination, failed to replicate last year's strong growth. Passenger numbers fell by 9% and turnover by 3%.
Strong early booking for summer 2026Early bookings for the 2026 summer season saw a significant increase in July. Accordingly, 12% of bookings made last month were for next year's summer vacation. This represents a significant five-point increase compared to the same period last year.
