The popular drink consumed by millions of people is not as healthy as it seems.

However, homemade smoothies often contain less sugar and more fiber than store-bought ones, making them recommended for those looking for a healthier option.

According to Express newspaper, when making smoothies at home, it's recommended to add yogurt, peanut butter, or protein powder as a protein source, along with fruits and greens. Water or milk can be used as a liquid base.

Nutritionist Jordan Spivak emphasizes that fruits contain carbohydrates, which can affect blood sugar. She recommends consulting a dietitian to determine the appropriate carbohydrate amount for your individual nutritional needs.

Scientists note that smoothies are generally not filling and, due to their low fiber content, are easy to overconsume. Therefore, portion control is crucial. The recommended daily intake is limited to 150 ml. However, smoothies offered in supermarkets or cafes often exceed this amount. To avoid exceeding the recommended intake, it's wise to share a smoothie or drink some later.

According to the British Heart Foundation, the healthiest drinks are water, hot drinks like unsweetened tea or coffee, and unsweetened fizzy drinks, respectively. Meanwhile, ice cream milkshakes, hot chocolates, and energy drinks top the list of the unhealthiest drinks.
