The most insidious and deadly disease of the modern age: 30 thousand people die from thrombosis every year in Türkiye!

Experts describe thrombosis, or blood clotting, as one of the most common and dangerous health problems of the modern age. Every year, 30 million people worldwide and 30,000 in Türkiye die from thrombosis.
Hematology Specialist Dr. Zafer Serenli Yeğen said, "We must raise public awareness about vascular occlusions, which affect the lives of millions. Millions of people die from thrombosis every year. This number is greater than the combined deaths from breast and lung cancer. Clots can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or race. Prolonged inactivity is a significant risk factor for clot formation."
Dr. Serenli Yeğen, emphasizing the vital importance of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment against thrombosis, listed the factors that increase the risk of thrombosis as follows: "Inactivity, obesity and unhealthy diet, smoking, surgical operations and prolonged hospitalization, cancer diseases and treatments, advanced age, genetic factors, pregnancy and hormone replacement therapies, and estrogen-containing birth control pills increase the risk of thrombosis."
So, is it possible to prevent thrombosis? Of course it is. Research shows that at least half of clot-related deaths are preventable. The most important thing is to adopt healthy lifestyle habits. Avoid a sedentary lifestyle by engaging in regular physical activity, and follow a healthy diet: consume plenty of fruits and vegetables, limit sugar and salt intake, drink plenty of water, avoid smoking, avoid prolonged periods of inactivity, exercise regularly, especially during long journeys, and prioritize weight control. Furthermore, if you have a family history of heart disease, sudden death, diabetes, or high cholesterol, you should definitely consult your doctor and have your risk assessed.
