Angela Ro Ro, one of the greatest voices in Brazilian music, dies

Singer Ângela Ro Ro, one of the greatest voices in Brazilian music, died this Monday (8) at the age of 75. She had been hospitalized in serious condition since July, due to a lung infection, which led her to have a tracheostomy.
According to information from her ex-girlfriend Laninha Braga, who confirmed her death to the newspaper O Globo, the singer suffered severe hypotension, followed by cardiac arrest. The medical team tried to revive her for 15 minutes, but she succumbed.
Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1949, Ângela Maria Diniz Gonsalves was named after fellow singer Ângela Maria (1929–2018). She earned the nickname Ro Ro as a child due to her husky voice. As a child, the artist began studying classical piano.
In the early 1970s, Ângela Ro Ro went to Rome, Italy, where she met filmmaker Glauber Rocha, who introduced her to Caetano Veloso, launching her artistic career. Caetano, who was exiled in London, invited the singer to participate in his album "Transa."
Back in Brazil, Ângela Ro Ro began participating in festivals and in 1979, released her first album, establishing herself over the decades as one of the greatest voices in Brazil.
