The cost of this option is "only" $349,999 per stay, and that's just for the basic accommodations. More luxurious options can cost up to nearly $2 million.

Life on a ship without limits

The Odyssey isn't your typical cruise ship. This mini-city serves primarily as a home for its several hundred passengers. Each of the American operator's voyages lasts three and a half years, and although there are no age restrictions on board, the "lodgers" are often retired individuals. "For many, it's a dream come true and, surprisingly, a more affordable lifestyle than life on land," writes the NY Post.

Odyssey passengers, however, are not trapped on the ship. Periodically, longer stops are made during the voyage, during which tourists can disembark for up to several days. Currently, the Villa Vie Odyssey is off the coast of Japan.

This is how much you have to pay for the cruise

One of the most affordable accommodation options is the Ocean View Villa package. Prices for a single suite start at $349,999 for a solo traveler and $599,999 for a couple. However, premium villas cost significantly more. A luxurious sleeping quarters and additional amenities during a 3.5-year stay on the ship can cost nearly $2 million per couple.

Travelers already have meals, beverages, and internet included in their stay. "For an additional $50,000, residents can choose a package that includes medical care, spa treatments, and personal care services," we read.
