Hotels in Spain evacuated. High temperatures led to wildfires.

The heatwave in Spain continues unabated. Due to the extremely high temperatures that have persisted for at least a week, many regions of the country are currently battling wildfires – the situation is particularly difficult in the province of A Coruña in Galicia in northern Spain and in Andalusia in the south. In the city of Tarifa on the Costa de la Luz, some hotels, campsites, and beach bars had to be evacuated.
Wildfires in Spain threaten touristsSpain is facing another devastating wildfire. Just a week ago, we reported on a blaze spreading across the central part of the country – since then, the problem has only intensified due to persistently high temperatures. Now, the blaze is wreaking havoc primarily in the north, near Santiago de Compostela, and also in the very south of Spain, near the popular tourist destination of Costa de la Luz. Here, in the city of Tarifa, more than a dozen hotels and campsites, as well as several beach bars, were evacuated after a fire was spotted in the La Peña district. "According to preliminary investigations, the fire may have been caused by a caravan that caught fire at the Torre de la Peña campsite," Spanish media report.
An important appeal to residents and touristsFighting the fire is difficult, partly due to the very strong winds. Authorities are appealing to residents and tourists to make it as easy as possible for firefighters to fight the blaze. One of the requests is to avoid using cars, so that roads remain passable for firefighters and all medical assistance.
The evacuation of further buildings has not been ruled out if, despite efforts, the fire begins to escalate again. "It is so extensive that smoke can be seen from neighboring towns, such as Zahara de los Atunes beach," the report reads.
