The heat is taking its toll on cities. Water curtains to cool down

Water curtains in Szczecin have been placed near the Oxygen office building and at Adamowicz Square. According to the Szczecin Water and Sewage Company, the devices will be turned on when the temperature exceeds 27 degrees .
- The water mist that appears near the curtains provides not only a pleasant cooling effect, but also a lot of fun for the youngest - encourages Hanna Pieczyńska, spokeswoman for the municipal water supply company.

At the same time, it reminds us about proper hydration. - Walking around many places in our city, we do not have to worry about running out of water. Our waterers can be found on the walking path next to Arkonka, on Różanka and Bulwary and many other places in the city. You can also fill your bottle in other places - lists Pieczyńska and adds that the ZWiK waterers are specially marked.

Katowice water curtains are equipped with an advanced automatic control and monitoring system that automatically starts the devices when the air temperature exceeds 24°C . Thanks to the sensors and remote control application, Katowice Waterworks can control in real time, among others, the curtain operation mode, ambient temperature, humidity, water pressure and battery charge level. In the event of undesirable events, such as pressure drops or sensor failures, the system immediately sends alarms.
Katowice is the first city in Poland to introduce such an advanced water curtain operating system.
Thanks to automation, operating costs have been significantly reduced and water resources are used more efficiently. Previously, i.e. before the introduction of modern solutions, the 17-curtain system used 170 m3 of water per season. Currently, it uses about 40 percent less water, i.e. about 100 m3 of water per season.
- reports the Katowice City Hall.
The operation of each water curtain depends on two factors: the time of day and the ambient temperature. The curtains are activated from 9:00 a.m. and then start when the temperature reaches 24°C, and the curtain will turn off only when the temperature drops to 22°C or at 8:00 p.m. This results in the curtains located in more shaded places turning on later and turning off earlier than those located in sunny squares. This allows for economical management of water and energy.
