Martin Scorsese has chosen his next film. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio

Martin Scorsese appears to have chosen his next film. Several projects he was interested in have surfaced in recent months, but he ultimately chose the screen adaptation of Peter Cameron's novel "What Happens at Night." Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence will star.
Final talks are underway to finalize a deal under which Apple Original Films (AOF) will finance and produce, in conjunction with Studiocanal, a film adaptation of Peter Cameron's novel "What Happens at Night." Martin Scorsese will direct this film, marking his latest collaboration with AOF following "Blood Moon," which also starred DiCaprio. Negotiations are facilitated by Apple's existing agreements with Scorsese and DiCaprio's production companies, Sikelia and Appian Way.
The screenplay for the upcoming film is by Patrick Marber . Studiocanal acquired the rights to Cameron's novel in 2023. At the time, it seemed that Scorsese would limit himself to producing the adaptation. DiCaprio opted for the project, choosing between "What Happens at Night" and a biopic centered on Evil Knievel, to be directed by Damien Chazelle.
What is "What Happens at Night" about? The film follows an American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a child. They stay in a vast, nearly empty hotel where they encounter a group of mysterious people. Among them, Deadline reports, are a flamboyant singer, a depraved businessman, and a charismatic healer. In this strange world, nothing is as it seems. The more the couple fights for their child, the less they seem to know about themselves.
Filming for "What Happens at Night" is scheduled to begin in January. Sources cited by Deadline claim it will have a similar tone to Scorsese's box office hit from years ago, also starring DiCaprio – the screen adaptation of Dennis Lehane's book "Shutter Island."
