A royal tomb has been found in Egypt, where Thutmose II was buried - a pharaoh who ruled the Nile in the 15th century BC. This is the first time in over 100 years that a previously unknown burial site of an ancient Egyptian ruler has been found. Previously, such a story concerned the tomb of Tutankhamun.

Archaeologists have said they have discovered a royal tomb belonging to one of Egypt's pharaohs . The Egyptian-British archaeological mission has determined that it belonged to King Thutmose II , who ruled Egypt in the 15th century BCE.

The Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt called this event " one of the most important archaeological discoveries of recent years." As he pointed out, it provided a lot of valuable information from the reign of Thutmose II.

What's more, for the first time since 1922, researchers reached the tomb of the pharaoh. 103 years ago, after many centuries, the Howard Carter expedition found the resting places of Tutankhamun .

The entrance and main corridor of the tomb of Thutmose II were discovered in 2022, but at that time it was considered to have belonged to the wives of one of the rulers. This was indicated, among other things, by its unusual location.

The cave was often flooded because it is located in a valley. Most of the valuable contents were moved from the "sinking" tomb in ancient times. However, over the years, archaeologists have discovered the true history of the tomb.

That it was in fact Thutmose II who was buried there was indicated by, among other things, alabaster jars bearing his name and wall inscriptions with fragments of the Book of Amduat , a key religious text associated with royal tombs.

The members of the archaeological mission stated in the statement that they will continue to excavate rocks in nearby areas and will try to determine the place where the royal valuables were moved.
