Gunmen open fire during a funeral in Irapuato.

IRAPUATO, Gto. (apro).- At least six armed men on motorcycles fired at a group of people attending the funeral of Óscar Omar, a 22-year-old man killed last Friday in the parking lot of the Alejandro Magno Institute.
The attack occurred around 1:00 p.m. this Sunday at the Los Olivos cemetery, where family and friends had gathered to say goodbye to the young man. According to witnesses, at least ten gunshots were heard, causing panic among those present.
Some of those present ran for cover and others jumped over the walls of the cemetery in search of refuge.
Witnesses reported that Óscar Omar's body had already been brought into the cemetery when a fight broke out between two groups of young men. Minutes later, three motorcycles with armed men entered the cemetery and opened fire.
So far, no injuries have been confirmed in this latest attack. Municipal and state security forces have deployed an operation in the area to locate those responsible.
During the actions, the Irapuato Citizen Security Secretariat reported the arrest of a man identified as Cristian, who has a history of carrying a firearm and crimes against public health. However, he is not directly linked to the attack at the cemetery.
The murder of Óscar Omar occurred on the afternoon of Friday, October 24, as he was walking along Ignacio García Téllez Avenue. Gunmen on a motorcycle approached him and began shooting. The young man tried to take cover in the parking lot of the Alejandro Magno Institute, but died minutes later from his injuries.
These events occurred just days after the mayor of Irapuato, Lorena Alfaro García of the PAN (National Action Party), announced a change in the leadership of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, appointing Consuelo Cruz Galindo as the new head, replacing Luis Ricardo Benavides Hernández, who had held the position since 2022. The change came after criticism over the rise in violence in the municipality.
