Number of fatal drownings rises sharply amid heatwave

Data published Friday by Public Health France is raising alarm. 429 drownings were recorded between June 1st and July 2nd, 109 of which resulted in deaths, or 25%. These figures are significantly higher than those for the same period in 2024. Among the hypotheses put forward to explain this increase: the heatwave of recent weeks and the influx of people to bathing areas.
