Moselle. The meanders of the Moselle, the most beautiful views from above in Contz-les-Bains!

We approach along a narrow road that winds beneath a wooded canopy. At the edge of the woods, in the summer, we feel a bit like we've arrived on the moon. The plateau stretches out there, often rocked by a more or less sustained breeze, but which in intense heat is a real blessing. At the edge of the vineyards, we initially glimpse nothing but sparse, dry vegetation.
To reach the dizzying view that the position promises, you have to earn it. And get as close as you can, to the edge of this witness hill whose depths have yielded gypsum and dolomite stones for centuries . The reward is worth it...
Over a hundred meters above the bends of the river, a magical panorama of more than 180° is offered, embracing here a few hills combed with vines, there a bell tower or even the centuries-old stones of the castle of the Dukes of Lorraine around which Sierck-les-Bains is nestled. It is as if the immensity of the plain has been placed at our feet.
A view that is all the more striking because you can normally enjoy it without being too disturbed, the site being now protected (Natura 2000) and walkers quite rare. Peace is the usual tenant of the place. Except of course… on the evenings of Saint-Jean . Because for several centuries, on the eve of these festivities, the inhabitants of Contz have had the custom of placing a wheel surrounded by straw at the start of the slope, which they set on fire at nightfall, before pushing it, hoping that it will end up in the river.
The spectacle is daunting, but it's obviously a day to avoid if you want to enjoy the true riches of the place in complete peace. The trick is not to be shy and dare to cross the guardrail. Without taking any unnecessary risks, you will easily access a series of small terraces barely wide enough to accommodate you alone or in pairs. And then... All that's left is to let the breeze bring you back memories of the place.
Oh! You won't have much reason to blush: the wild grasses here still know how to keep secrets. Which doesn't mean they don't tell anything! Let yourself go and listen to the seconds follow one another. If you pay attention, you might hear some of the phrases from the most beautiful of novels: that of life lived to the fullest.
