Daniel Bilalian, former France 2 presenter, died on Wednesday at the age of 78 following an illness, his family announced on Thursday, May 15, 2025. A familiar figure in the audiovisual landscape for more than four decades, he also headed the sports department of France Télévisions.

Daniel Bilalian, former news anchor for Antenne 2 and then France 2, died Wednesday at the age of 78 following an illness, his family announced Thursday.

A well-known broadcasting figure for over 40 years, he was also head of France Télévisions' sports department. He retired in the fall of 2016, at almost 70 years old, and has since disappeared from the screens.

The journalist was successively a senior reporter, presenter and editor-in-chief of the 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. news, and also produced the magazines "Star à la barre" and "Mardi soir".

Born on April 10, 1947 in Paris to an Armenian father and a mother from Pas-de-Calais, Daniel Bilalian began his career at the daily newspaper L' Union de Reims in 1968. He joined ORTF at the regional information office in Reims in 1971, then in Lille in 1972.

Daniel Bilalian then joined the national management of Antenne 2 in the domestic policy department, a "house" that he would not leave until his retirement.
