BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR (apro) .- After a month of being reported missing while in police custody, young men Pablo Figueroa Martínez and Xandro Jesús Torres Procopio, aged 17 and 21, respectively, were found dead in a stream in Baja California Sur.

The group "Búsquedas San José del Cabo" confirmed the discovery this Friday on its official social media site.

“Located dead! We are so sorry to find you in this manner, but the promise of finding you has been fulfilled, little ones. Rest in peace. God welcomes you into his kingdom. All our support for the families! From the Búsquedas San José collective, we send our deepest condolences,” they expressed in a message.

Ross Ibarra Rojas, a representative of the group, published a video in which he stated that the families had already been notified.

"Young people disappeared in Cabo San Lucas, allegedly at the hands of Los Cabos municipal police, who are currently in custody. The prosecutor's office informs the families that two bodies found belong to Xandro and Pablo. We deeply regret this news," he said, also asking for respect and to avoid negative assumptions and comments.

The case caused a stir in the state because municipal police from Los Cabos were involved; according to the information released, the young men were intercepted by officers on June 26, and their whereabouts have remained unknown since.

On Tuesday, July 29, authorities from the Baja California Sur State Attorney General's Office (PGJE) shared a statement stating that Criminal Investigation Agents, with support from the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), executed six court orders against five men and one woman.

"For his probable responsibility in the crime of enforced disappearance of persons. As a result of the investigations and ministerial proceedings following up on the complaint of enforced disappearance of persons, the necessary evidence was obtained for a judge to issue the court orders," they stated.

The detained group includes: Alejandra “N,” 32, originally from the state of Sinaloa; Ramón “N,” 30, originally from Mexico City; Sergio “N,” 23, originally from the state of Chiapas; Jesús “N,” 33; José “N,” 26; and Pedro “N,” 21, the latter three originally from the municipality of Los Cabos.

The arrest took place at a home in the Lomas del Sol neighborhood of Cabo San Lucas, after which they were brought before the Control Judge.

The following day, Antonio López Rodríguez, Attorney General of Baja California Sur, confirmed the relationship with these police officers to the press.

“Various lines of investigation were deployed. Some information was gathered, and unfortunately, it was still considered probable that municipal security officers were involved. The presumption of innocence must be maintained until proven guilty in a trial. However, the information indicates that they likely participated in the arrest of these young men, and that after their arrest, it was no longer possible to locate them,” he added.

Finally, the PGJE also shared a statement this Friday confirming that the remains had already been returned to the families, following the corresponding genetic testing.

Flor Leticia Peña Martínez, head of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation and Prosecution of Enforced Disappearances, Disappearances Committed by Individuals, and Related Crimes, stated that Xandro and Pablo were in the vicinity of Arroyo Santa Anita, approximately 500 meters from a property identified as El Conejo.

"Therefore, an investigation was immediately opened for the crime of intentional homicide... the advanced state of decomposition of the bodies indicated they had been dead for several days," he stated.
