Tonight Mariasela celebrates thirteen years

Tonight Mariasela celebrates thirteen years

The program Esta noche Mariasela , hosted by the television production company from Monday to Friday on Color Visión , celebrates thirteen years since the return of Mariasela Álvarez , after being absent from the country for several years to reside in Spain.

Known for her commitment to high- production content, over the past thirteen years, Mariasela has continued to open her space to young talent so they can showcase their creativity through her program . In this installment of her daily program, she's joined by journalists Diana Lora and Nairobi Viloria, as well as a comedy segment hosted by Anderson Humor and accompanied by a musical group.

The winner of Miss World in London , England, in 1982 , shared details of this transition on national television .

—In these thirteen years that Esta Noche Mariasela has been around, how have you felt with the warmth of the people ?

It's been an intense, extraordinary experience in my life, wonderful in many ways, challenging in many others, which has made me grow professionally and as a person. It has also left a legacy for new generations of communicators, the public, and my own family. Because upon returning, as you said, trying to start over isn't easy; it never is when you've left a position or changed direction.

In this case, trying to restart my career , albeit in a different way, had its obstacles: new generations who weren't familiar with our work, in short, a series of things that have already happened. But they showed me—and especially my loved ones—that the phrase I once said when I received an award was true.

My children have often told me this in their comments: "Mom , you taught us that we can start over." The important thing is to believe in ourselves , to believe in what we're capable of. In that sense, it was also a lesson for me, because I didn't know I was capable of it.

Although in these thirteen years we have worked more on current events than in the past, yes, I am the same person, with the same values , the same beliefs and, above all, the same way of working, the same commitment to the public and to quality content.

Audiences are definitely changing , and so are times. These days, there's a generation that watches television primarily through YouTube and social media, rather than directly on the device during the time it's broadcast. However, in a country like ours, where not everyone has unlimited internet access, many people still watch television , especially those who grew up with it and grew up with it.

Yes, and television is still being consumed. An audience is there, active, turning to traditional media for verification. Recently, Guido Gómez Mazara spoke specifically about the infodemic , about the amount of false information circulating on social media, which people validate.

When you try to say something is false, it doesn't come across with the same intensity as the lie .

So television remains the medium par excellence for validating important events. I see that on my show every day.

The importance of traditional media lies in their credibility , and that remains the case, even if there are those who constantly undermine them. When it comes to searching for accurate information , we all turn to traditional sources, even if it's on YouTube or social media. We look for the channel, the newspaper, the credible source.

This was demonstrated, for example, during the pandemic . Just five years ago, when we were all surrounded by uncertainty , anxious, and restless, we turned to traditional channels, newspapers, and reputable media .

"It was said that newspapers would disappear with the internet, that cinema would die with platforms, but that wasn't the case. The opposite has been proven." Mariasela Álvarez, producer and television presenter

Exactly. That's what the algorithm 's bias is looking for. So how can you necessarily believe something that's been forced to be that way? The communicator can't create the news or be the news.

That's worrying, because if a generation is going to listen to that kind of information more, it will be very misinformed. And now, with the development of artificial intelligence , we don't know how far it will go.

—Mariasela, was it worth it to return to TV ?

Of course, but I would like national television to continue investing in local production . I would like companies and media outlets to understand the importance, impact, and value that television has in creating identity and culture .

Saying "that's outdated, that's gone, this is what it is now" is a mistake. The internet isn't a local phenomenon, it's a global one. When I go online, I don't just see what's happening in the Dominican Republic; I see what's happening all over the world .

But to create an identity, I must find something I identify with, and that content must be and continue to be on our television , produced by our talents, our hosts, our realities.
