These are the main challenges millennials face in achieving a dignified old age.

Old age is a stage of life that is often feared due to the uncertainty surrounding social dynamics and the passage of time. Often, younger generations, even though the time seems distant, believe they want a dignified old age despite the challenges presented by today's society.
Millennials are one of the generations already concerned about the conditions in which they will live their old age and wonder about the conditions in which they will spend that time of their lives.
The challenges millennials face in old age Joaquín Mateu Mollá, director of the Official Master's Program in Gerontology and Person-Centered Care at the International University of Valencia, asserts that there are negative perceptions toward millennials due to "ageist" stereotypes that make them different from previous generations.
"The only potential discrepancy between them lies in the historical events they've had to navigate; and it's undeniable that over the past few decades, we've experienced situations that have impacted our mental, economic, and social health," the professional says, referring to situations such as unemployment and war, among other things.

These challenges, which have increased recently, such as job instability, the rising cost of living, and the significant difficulty in acquiring a home, could be generating uncertainty as these generations approach their old age.
On the other hand, social media and hyperconnectivity have also introduced new dynamics that primarily affect the younger population.

According to the Bank of the Republic, by 2070, the group of people over 60 will represent 32% of the Colombian population. This figure contrasts with that of older adults with pensions, which stands at 25.5%.
These data increase the uncertainty facing the new generations. However, they also represent a challenge that is pushing them to acquire skills useful for the future, which, according to the expert, "is not easy, as it represents a dramatic change from what previous generations had done up to now."

The challenge facing millennials can serve as a benchmark for succeeding generations, as it addresses issues such as dignified aging, changes in society, and labor rights.
"We are also seeing a generation with a high level of sensitivity toward social issues, demanding their rights and eager to participate in various transformations that could have a positive impact on future generations," Mollá noted.
