Step Inside Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott’s Luxury New York Home

Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott shared a new look into their very special property.
The longtime couple, who got engaged in 2023, welcomed Architectural Digest into their New York City apartment for a tour of their vintage-meets-modern home.
The tour began with the entryway, where they greet their guests and ride an elevator to go up to their living space, and the first look featured floral wallpaper, moody green molding, gold accents and a chandelier.
"There is nothing more important than a first impression," the HGTV star said in the October 8 video, "and we wanted to really welcome our guests with something interesting, exciting."
He also put his contractor knowledge to good use, as they created the stunning high ceilings after moving in.
"The ceiling height here was less than eight feet originally. It was so low. It was right there," he added. "And all of that was just wasted up top. So, we raised it up. We added the crown, the statement fixture to draw the eye. The arch is actually my favorite thing. But this is also just a tease of what you're going to see inside."
After stepping into the actual apartment, more "magical" murals and wallpaper continue to fill the space, as well as classic and artistic molding on the walls and ceiling. The actress shared, "This place looked absolutely nothing like the way it does now."
Next was the kitchen, which Jonathan called "the heart of the home." A stone island and backsplash are paired with different shades of blue for an airy, open space.
They intentionally did not incorporate any recess lighting into their kitchen—or anywhere in their home for that matter—opting for lamps, sconces or chandeliers instead.
"This is the side effect of being engaged to someone whose father is a world-class cinematographer," Jonathan said of Zooey's dad, Academy Award nominee Caleb Deschanel. "Lighting is very important."
Their main living area blends modern and traditional, with a floral patterned couch, colorful pillows and even a custom-made rug. To keep the sight of a TV out of the way, they hid a screen that they can pull down and use with a projector.
"We love a place that feels like lush and pretty, but also we want our home to feel lived in and not too stark and austere," the New Girl star shared, with the Property Brothers star adding, "You can come in here and it's unique, but it's also super comfy."
A grand piano adds classic glamour to the home as well as entertainment for guests, as Zooey shared she looks forward to "parties that are singalongs." In the cabinet next to it? Their karaoke equipment.
Their outdoor space serves as an oasis from city living, which Jonathan pointed out is rare.
"You don't really get a space like this in New York City apartments," Jonathan shared of their not just one, but three terraces. "It just feels like you can get that little slice of what we had in L.A. when we started."
Wood fences, fountains, checkered tile, textured ironwork and a topiary elephant among other immaculate plants give the space the "English garden feel" that they "really love."
Their space wouldn't be complete without a room with a fireplace, and their books are set on arched bookshelves set within the walls on each side for a cozy space with custom-made chairs. Color and pattern are incorporated into every fabric, just as it is in their bedroom, where the wallpaper is embroidered and the light blue seashell-style headboard steals the show.
What Jonathan called "his favorite room in the whole house" is the kids' room—which features a large, extended bunk bed with space for privacy and storage—for Zooey's two children with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik: daughter Elsie, 10, and son Charlie, 8.
"When the kids saw it for the first time, they screamed," Zooey shared. "They were so excited."
For a look back together at the couple's life together beyond their apartment, read on.
In late October 2019, soon after they began dating after meeting on Carpool Karaoke, the pair took a major step in their romance and became Instagram official. As the New Girl alum wrote, "Still processing how scared I was of these people dressed in spooky masks."
The actress made the purrrfect plus one to his brother's Halloween wedding.
During Thanksgiving 2019, the Property Brothers star professed his love to Zooey, publicly dropping the "L" word in his Instagram caption. "I am beyond thankful to be surrounded by such incredibly fun loving people & puppies," he wrote to his one million followers. "You bring joy to my life. I love you."
After two months together, the couple made their red carpet debut at the Critics' Choice Documentary Awards in November 2019.
