Nepal Unrest Shuts Airports, Hilton Hotel Damaged

Nepal is facing one of its most turbulent weeks in recent memory. What began as protests against government corruption and inequality has spiraled into violent unrest, leading to a nationwide curfew, dozens of deaths, and the closure of airports. For the country’s tourism industry that has already been under pressure in recent years the impact is immediate and severe.
In Kathmandu, demonstrators stormed the Hilton Hotel, smashing windows as fire and smoke billowed from the property.
“We can confirm that the property has closed following damage sustained during yesterday's protests,” a Hilton spokesperson told Skift. “Guests and team members were safely evacuated from the premises, and no injuries have been reported at this time.
