George Clooney's Broadway debut wasn't quite a family affair.

The actor's wife Amal Clooney was noticeably absent as he officially made his Broadway debut at the opening night for Good Night, and Good Luck April 3. But as George told reporters gathered at the Winter Garden Theatre, the human rights lawyer missed the show because "she's with the kids," People reports.

The couple and their 7-year-old twins Alexander and Ella moved to New York City for George's Broadway stint, and George previously revealed how the kids have adapted to life in the Big Apple.

"They love it here," the 63-year-old shared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in February. "I mean, come on, how do you not love this? It’s New York City."

"Actually, a play is kind of a good schedule because you’re working at night," George added. "You get to see the kids during the day, so it’s okay."

While Alexander and Ella have a good grasp on what their mother does for a living, they haven't quite wrapped their minds around their dad's profession and all that it entails.

"They know what a lawyer is," George told E! News in a joint interview with Amal in September. "When they play games, when someone goes to prison, they're like, ‘It's okay, Mama can get them out.’ I think that's what they've reached."

Meanwhile, they have not yet seen any of his on-screen acting roles.

“I don't want them to for the most part,” he continued. "But they did say to me one day when they came home from school, ‘What's ‘famous?’ Which we didn't want to explain."

Amal chimed in, saying, "They know you're an actor. I think they find it intriguing."

As making sure they're able to spend time together despite their busy schedules, the 47-year-old noted that she and George have figured out workarounds for themselves.

"We both work from home as much as possible," Amal shared, "and we try not to spend too much time apart when we're traveling, so we basically follow each other around the globe. We're lucky."
