Tom Holland on Spider-Man: Brand New Day: 'We Are Shooting Absolute Gold'
Tom Holland is currently filming his fourth Spider-Man film. You know what that means, web-heads? Every rumor under the sun is making its rounds on the Internet right now. (Hulk? The Punisher? Daredevil? Miles Morales? You name it.)
Some of those unbelievable spoilers proved to pan out last time, when Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield appeared on screen for a team-up in Spider-Man: No Way Home. But if we’re to glean anything truthful about next summer’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the only source I trust to tell it to me straight (and maybe even spoil something by mistake), is Holland himself. So, I asked the actor about Spider-Man during our interview about becoming Prada’s new Global Beauty Ambassador, when he revealed that he took a more assertive role this time in helping to shape Peter Parker's next story.
“I did a lot of sneaky research online—looking at what people were saying in the interim between Spider-Man: No Way Home and now Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” Holland told me. “I really just kind of put together a vibe of what people were looking for and went to Marvel and said, ‘This is what I think we should be doing.’ And I think that's exactly what we are doing. So, it's been a really fun process developing the movie. It's the first time I've ever been allowed in that part of the process, and it's definitely a stressful experience. But I think where we've got to, now that we're shooting, we are shooting absolute gold.”
In August, Sony shared a behind-the-scenes clip of Holland swinging around Glasglow, Scotland, as fans cheered from the streets. There was also much hubbub about the design of his new suit for Brand New Day, which returns to the classic bright red and blues of the character's comic book character origins. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are expected to return as Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson and Ned Leeds, respectively, with Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) joining the cast in undisclosed supporting roles.
"It's been a really fun process developing the movie," he says. "Now that we're shooting, we are shooting absolute gold," Holland says.
"I want to do justice to Peter Parker's character," Holland continued. "I have such a good understanding of who Peter Parker is, and I have been so lucky that the fan base has been so vocal about what they love from the franchise," he said. "We've been able to really lean into those things and capitalize on those things. So, I love standing up for the character, being in the room, and making sure that the decisions we make are what's best for Peter Parker because he really does feel like one of my best friends. It's a really weird experience diving into the character again. It just feels like you're hanging out with an old pal."
Spider-Man: Brand New Day premieres in theaters on July 31, 2026.
