Reacher’s Maria Sten shares exciting update on Neagley spin-off as filming ‘gets started’

Reacher star Maria Sten has shared a thrilling update on her upcoming spin-off from the popular Prime Video thriller.

She stars as Frances Neagley, a recurring character from Lee Child’s bestselling novels who frequently aids her former US Army colleague Jack Reacher (played by Alan Ritchson) in his various escapades.

A fan-favourite amongst readers, the former military intelligence investigator returns in the third season of Reacher, despite not appearing in the book upon which it’s based, 2003’s Persuader.

However, she’ll soon be taking centre stage in her own off-shoot, which is slated to feature Ritchson’s iconic wanderer in a guest role.

Speaking exclusively to Screen Time, Sten confirmed: “I can’t, of course, reveal any plot, but we’re just about to get started with filming.

“And I’m so excited with the material. It’s very much Neagley in her world and I guess you do see her in Chicago when you meet her in season three, so in that way we establish she has a world outside of Reacher when she isn’t going off on crazy missions to help him.

“Or when I’m not enlisting him to find our friends. I think you do find her in her own universe and I think that maybe is what will help us tie into this show.

“But I love the material, I love that we get to know her better, I love that we get to really dig into some character stuff and new cast members that we’re very excited about.”

The first season of Neagley is confirmed to be set in Chicago where she runs her own private eye business and takes on a chilling case involving an old friend.

An official synopsis released via Deadline reads: “Frances Neagley is a private investigator in Chicago and former military colleague of Jack Reacher in the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit.

“When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes hell bent on justice.

“Using everything she’s learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley puts herself on a dangerous path to uncover a menacing evil.”

Writers Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton added in a statement: “Lee Child created an immensely rich character with Neagley, and Maria Sten brought her to life in such a vivid, authentic way in Reacher.

“Amazon, Skydance Television, and CBS Studios have been tremendous partners from the start, and we are excited to explore Neagley’s story further and dive into what makes her so unique.”

Sten has also previously confirmed that Neagley will not be based on pre-existing material by Child, so fans won’t know what to expect when they dive headfirst into this new spin-off soon.

Reacher season 3 continues Thursdays on Prime Video. A release date for Neagley has not been confirmed.
