Huge Line of Duty star 'relishing new role' in ITV thriller Red Eye's second series

Fans of ITV thriller Red Eye are to be in for a treat when it comes to series two of the hit show.
A major actor from Line of Duty has been signed up to take on a role in the drama ,which debuted with Ricard Armitage as the star of the show. It has been revealed Martin Compston's busy schedule has been bolstered further with a part to play in the ITV series.
It's reported that, while series one of Red Eye took place on a commercial jet, the second series will feature on a private plane - with Martin's role said to be a lot different to what fans are used to.
According to the Sun, Martin, who is best known for his role as Detective Inspector Steve Arnott on Line of Duty, won't be a good guy this time around. A source said: "This is a bit of a departure for Martin, who’s usually seen playing the nice guys, even if they are often heroic figures with flaws. But it seems his character is an out-and-out baddie, which he’ll relish getting the chance to play just to be able to mix things up a bit.
Martin also told the publication: "I’m delighted to be joining the Red Eye team. Hoping to build on the massive success of the first series and give viewers another thrilling ride."
In the first series, Richard took on the role of Dr Matthew Nolan. The British medic found himself being flown back to China to face criminal charges. He was joined by Detective Hana Li, played by Jing Lusi, who was responsible for escorting him. Those on board, however, encountered turbulence on the six-part drama which covered an all-night flight from London to Beijing, the streets of London, and the corridors of power within Whitehall.
It's thought Jing will reprise her role for the upcoming series. Lesley Sharp and Jemma Moore will also be back in their roles as Head of MI5 Madeline Delaney and journalist Jess Li.
Announcing the second series in September last year, ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill said: "I am so delighted to see the success of Red Eye. It’s incredible to get an audience of over 8 million and a huge thank you to everyone involved for making such a brilliant and addictive thriller. I can’t wait for audiences to see where Pete takes series 2. It’s another exciting ride!"
