Kate Gosselin Makes Financial Confession After Returning to Full-Time Job

Kate plus eight college careers to fund means that Kate Gosselin found herself scrubbing back in to her old job as a nurse nearly two decades after her and ex Jon Gosselin's TLC series made her a household name.

Asked what made her return to the 12-hour shifts of pediatric home health care, the mom to 24-year-old twins Cady and Mara and 21-year-old Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel did the math.

“Honestly? Providing for 8 kids," the Jon & Kate Plus 8 star wrote in the comments of her Aug. 11 TikTok video. “College funds which I am proud to say covered all of their college and more and LAWYERS.”

Noting that her former spouse took her into court "constantly," the 50-year-old added, "that costs A TON. Sad bc my kids could have a lot more saved and I could have a retirement saved if it weren’t for lawyers."

Still, the evidence would suggest her new role has been a welcome change.

"I am an RN, I work in PEDs home health care," the North Carolina-based reality star detailed in an Aug. 3 TikTok. "I work with one family currently. The patients already know my name and some things about me so before I come into their home, they know who I am. And I imagine they already know me."

Subtracting the TV cameras and adding in a fulfilling role has totaled up to "a really rewarding and fun job," said Kate. "To come in and relive a family of their medically challenged child so that they can spend time with their other kids and do other things."

And the Dancing With the Stars alum isn't the first bold-faced name to—in the immortal words of Kim Kardashian—get her f--king ass up and work.

Though That's So Raven alum Anneliese van der Pol made her way back to TV screens with the 2017 spinoff Raven's Home, when the OG series ended in 2007, she started working at several New York City restaurants.

While she was "proud" of her abilities to multitask, waiting on fans and clocking the the disappointment on their faces was "gut-wrenching," she admitted during a 2023 episode of Big Name B*tches.

"It's almost like I had to say, 'I'm okay. I'm actually really happy that I don't have to audition and am doing something I know I'm good at,'" she recounted. "I know when I clean a table or bring a meal that, I can do that, and there won't be any mistakes. I won't be judged."

And if you're curious which other stars have clocked into a more standard 9 to 5, we're serving up to goods.

While Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum Kate Gosselin lamented the fact that so much of her savings went toward paying lawyers in her battle with ex-husband Jon Gosselin, the evidence would suggest she's enjoyed her return to nursing.

"I am an RN, I work in PEDs home health care,” Kate detailed in an August 2025 TikTok. “I work with one family currently. The patients already know my name and some things about me so before I come into their home, they know who I am. And I imagine they already know me."

What she knows, though, is that helping others is quite fulfilling.

"It’s actually been a really rewarding and fun job," Kate continued. "To come in and relieve a family of their medically challenged child so that they can spend time with their other kids and do other things."

Noting her friend worked at a coffee shop in the Valley, the actress shared in her 2015 memoir Wildflower that she had to find something closer to their rental because she didn't have a driver's license.

"It was the start of the 1990s, and coffeehouses were where everyone hung out," she detailed of working at L.A. hot spot the Living Room. "People poured out on to the street every night." Unfortunately, she continued, "I wasn’t great at my job. I wasn't really great at anything. I had only done two things: acted and had wild life experiences."

She served up the tea on one tense experience in her book.

"I could tell my boss, who had hired me on the novel idea of having a washed-up former child actor behind the counter, was patient with all my learning curves, but was also irritated with me," she wrote, revealing how he walked in while she was doing the dishes "and said, very sharply and exasperatedly, 'Don't use the abrasive side of the brush! Snyder now works in real estate in Los Angeles, though his past as a child star does occasionally come up.
