Beyoncé’s Rising Sign Makes So Much Sense

In news that’s been shaking the world, Beyoncé has revealed her actual birth time—9:47 P.M. in Houston, Texas. For astrology lovers, this is a huge deal because it means that we can now accurately calculate her rising sign. Which, in case you haven’t heard, turns out to be fierce, independent Aries.
In astrology, the rising sign reveals the first impression that you make on the world. Much like the sun sign, this point determines how you’ll shine in the public eye. If you’re lucky enough to know your birth time, you can figure out your rising (also called the ascendant) with a simple calculator.
Until the publication of her Cowboy Carter Art Book, no one knew exactly when Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter took her first breath on Sept. 4, 1981. But in the pages of this coffee table tome, Queen Bey seems to have shared a photo of her birth certificate with the time printed on it. At last!

The rising sign is so specific that even a shift of five minutes can change your destiny. For the past 20 years, astrologers believed that Beyoncé was born close to 10 A.M., giving her a gentle, stylish Libra rising. But if this is her birth certificate, that is not the case—not by a long shot. Libra is literally that polar-opposite sign of flashy, fiery, in-your-face Aries.
Located at the nine-o’clock point on the zodiac wheel, the rising sign is also the starting point of the birth chart. It represents the sign that was on the eastern horizon when you were born. Although Beyoncé has her sun in demure Virgo, the theatrical Aries rising is probably responsible for pushing her into the limelight. Fun fact: Many of music’s divas were born under the sun sign of Aries, including Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Diana Ross. It’s safe to say that Bey shares their megawatt presence.
Reviewing her catalog of work, you can see a distinct Aries theme rippling through it all. Beyoncé’s anthems, like “Independent Women, Part I” and “Run the World,” remind us we are powerful and strong all by ourselves. And who can forget her destroying a car with a bat in her “Hold Up” music video, unleashing raw Ram energy in a mustard-yellow Roberto Cavalli dress?
As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries prizes originality. Refusing to be pigeonholed into a single genre, Beyoncé became the first Black woman to have a No. 1 record on the Billboard country charts in April 2024. Then, in 2025, that same album, Cowboy Carter, helped her nab the Grammy for Album of the Year. Don’t fence this Aries rising in!
Confession: This birth-time mix-up is kind of our fault. You see, back in 2003, we gave Beyoncé her first-ever chart reading at the Billboard Music Awards. She sat down with us after her rehearsal, makeup-free and glowing in a low-key grey sweatsuit. She had never had an astrology reading and was curious to learn about her cosmic blueprint. Since she didn’t know what time she was born, she dialed up her mom, Tina, who said, “Around 10 o’clock in the morning.” Close enough! We ran her chart and read her as a Libra rising.
We shared this time with fellow astrologers and word got around. It was an honest mistake. Tina was in labor, and mixing up A.M. and P.M. is a common thing for people to do when they don’t have the birth certificate handy.
Beyoncé still has plenty of Libra in her chart—a stellium, in fact, which is the name of a cluster of four or more planets in a single sign. Sept. 4, 1981 (her birthday) featured a super-rare alignment of Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto all in Libra. Her grace, fashion sense, and devoted relationship style, which were previously attributed to her Libra rising, could be chalked up to the stellium.
What’s also exciting is that we now know that Beyoncé’s Virgo sun lands in her fifth house of fame. Once you know birth time, you can also accurately map the houses, adding another layer of information and revealing where a planet or luminary can work its magic best. Bey might be a Virgo, but that humble energy emits through the fifth house’s strengths of creativity, passion, and attention-grabbing appeal.
To be honest, there’s nothing terribly shocking about the discovery that Beyoncé has an Aries rising. It tracks. Aries rising really says “Sasha Fierce,” a complementary alter ego to her modest, generous Virgo sun. And we’ll take as much of that medley as Beyoncé wants to serve. Houston, this is so not a problem.
