Rumors of Rocky and Rihanna’s romance first started shortly after Rihanna split from billionaire boyfriend Hassan Jameel in January 2020, after three years together. A source told People then that “their lives were too different, and it was hard to maintain a relationship.” Shortly after their breakup, Rihanna was seen hanging out with A$AP Rocky more often. On December 2, the pair walked the British Fashion Awards red carpet in London. Rihanna wore a Fenty mint green satin dress with matching gloves and wrap, paired with a diamond-studded choker necklace. Rocky wore an all-black tux with sneakers. Janet Jackson presented Rihanna’s first fashion award for her Urban Luxe nomination.
Rihanna and Rocky sparked tabloid dating rumors days after her split from Hassan Jameel was reported. According to Entertainment Tonight, Rihanna and Rocky attended the Yams Day Benefit Concert in Brooklyn together.
A source suggested the two stars were dating to The Sun, telling the British outlet, “they’re really enjoying each other’s company and taking things easy as it’s still early days.”
Shortly after The Sun’s report came out, E! shut down the romance speculation. A source told E!, “Rihanna is single. She just got out of a long intense relationship with Hassan. She wants to be single and isn’t going to jump into something. She’s hanging out with A$AP Rocky, but she is not dating him. They have a long history, and she’s just having fun.”
Months after dating rumors were initially denied, Rocky appeared alongside Rihanna in Fenty Skin’s ad cameo. The ad also featured Lil Nas X, Tommy Genesis, and Halima Aden.
Rihanna interviewed the “Everyday” rapper in a GQ YouTube video. Rocky answered questions about his skincare routine, throwback outfits, and Fenty Skin. When asked about the most challenging part of working with Rihanna, the rapper said, “I think the hardest part about working with you is not goofin’ off and laughing the whole time. Like, this shit is comedy.” Rocky continued, “The hardest part is not having too much fun. You just forget that it’s still work at the end of the day.”
On November 28, the rumored couple was spotted out with a group of friends at the Beatrice Inn in New York. According to Page Six, the two were “seated discreetly behind a curtain.”
A couple days later, People confirmed that Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were officially dating. The source did not provide details about the couple’s timeline or how serious their relationship is.
On December 1, a source gave Entertainment Tonight details about Rihanna and Rocky’s relationship.
“They have always had amazing chemistry, and Rihanna relates to A$AP, and it [their relationship] feels natural, easy and fun,” the source said. “She feels very comfortable around him since they’ve known each other for such a long time and also feels a connection to him because his dad is from Barbados.”
According to People, the couple had been inseparable for weeks. A source told the outlet that “it’s a new relationship, but they both seem very into it.” Rocky’s lifestyle as a famous musician worked with Rihanna’s. “They’ve always seemed to have a great time together,” the source said. “They have a lot in common.”
Us Weekly reported that the “Goldie” rapper “has been very into Rihanna for years and was always the instigator in their flirtatious connection,” according to a source. The source also mentioned that Rihanna “would brush off his advances and kept him in the friend zone” until now.
“Things changed over the summer, and they finally hooked up. They’ve been together ever since,” Us’s source said.
The couple became more serious as the Grammy-nominated rapper flew to Barbados to join Rihanna and her family for the holidays. According to People, the pair spent Christmas together.
Entertainment Tonight was told by a source that “spending Christmas together was an obvious step” for their relationship. The source said being longtime friends makes it easier to “get along, travel together, and be involved in each other’s lives to the full extent. They always have such a good time together and definitely seem in love.”
On December 24, the low-key couple was photographed by paparazzi in Barbados. TMZ shared a photo of the pair hand-in-hand as they walked to the pier, seemingly confirming their relationship.
Later that month, paparazzi caught more affectionate moments between the new couple. Rihanna and Rocky were spotted sharing a kiss while enjoying their Catamaran cruise, according to TMZ. The outlet shared a video of the pair jet skiing and tubing alongside Rihanna’s friends.
On January 18, the couple and friends celebrated Yams Day, an annual celebration of Rocky’s late friend and business partner A$AP Yam, who died in 2015. E! reported details of the night as the couple arrived separately.
“Rihanna arrived with a group of friends and met A$AP Rocky there,” a source told the outlet. “They entered the restaurant through different doors and tried to be discreet. A$AP Rocky entered behind a bodyguard and ducked inside quickly. Once everyone arrived, they sat together with a group of friends.”
The source said that the group had dinner and shared stories throughout the evening: “There was lots of food passed around the table and laughter coming from inside. They stayed for over two hours before leaving separately.” Rihanna and Rocky left separately.
The couple made a rare sighting in Los Angeles on April 12. The paparazzi photographed the pair leaving dinner at Delilah in matching leather outfits. Rihanna wore a brown leather coat, and Rocky wore a black leather jacket paired with leather pants. It was confirmation that their romance remained very much on a year into the coronavirus pandemic.
In a GQ interview, Rocky opened up about his relationship with the Barbadian singer for the first time. In the interview, he referred to Rihanna as “the love of my life” and “my lady.”
The rapper did not share when the two began their relationship, but he did discuss what dating Rihanna is like versus playing the field. It’s “so much better when you got the One. She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones,” Rocky said. “I think when you know, you know. She’s the One.”

Rihanna showed off some of her famously sexy and flattering maternity wear at the photocall for her Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin party held at Goya Studios in Los Angeles. Rocky was by her side, and the couple smiled and embraced one another for the cameras on the red carpet.
Rihanna wore a shredded green halter top with a backless design, over a pair of pants of the same material in a silver-to-purple ombré pattern. Rocky wore a Louis Vuitton ensemble featuring a letterman jacket with a matching shirt, a purple Yankees hat to match his girlfriend, and a pair of shredded denim jeans with green sneakers.
Engagement rumors circulated when the pregnant singer was photographed out wearing a stunning diamond ring on her left ring finger.
When photographed with the ring, Rihanna was out shopping for baby clothes in Los Angeles’ Kitson, in a vintage Grave Digger monster truck T-shirt with jeans, a statement hat that read “Sex is safer than smoking,” and a Gucci Balenciaga purse.
A couple days later, paparazzi asked Rihanna about the ring she was wearing. She laughed and teased, via The Daily Mail, “This old ring?”
This was a tough month for the couple after Rocky was arrested for a connection to a Hollywood shooting in November 2021. He was taken in by the Los Angeles Police Department on April 20. The arrest came shortly after the couple landed back in California after visiting family in Barbados. He posted his $550,000 bail and was released just hours later.
After the arrest, Rihanna allegedly canceled her baby shower. A source told Us Weekly that she “hasn’t spoken much about [the arrest]. She’s truly focused on her pregnancy and not trying to get too stressed.”
The insider added, “She is very confident about everything and has told friends she just hopes for a positive outcome.”
Rocky was accused of being involved with a shooting near Selma and Argyle Avenues following an argument. A man alleged that he was approached by the rapper at around 10:15 P.M. on November 6 and that Rocky fired a handgun at him three or four times. The victim’s left hand was grazed by a bullet, and he sought medical treatment.
Rihanna and Rocky’s “very fly” baby, RZA, arrived. Rihanna gave birth to a baby boy on May 13 in Los Angeles, TMZ reported. The baby’s name was not immediately shared.
A source close to the couple told People that the two were home in Los Angeles with him. “Rihanna is doing well. They are very excited to be parents. Rihanna is already a wonderful mom,” the source said.
It’s announced that Rihanna will be headlining the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2023.
“Rihanna is excited for her Super Bowl performance,” a source told Entertainment Tonight. “She is trying to stay on the healthier side and feel good and fit ahead of it.”
Rihanna herself told ET's Rachel Smith that she had a form of buyer’s regret after the halftime news was announced.
“I can’t believe I even said yes,” she explained. “It was one of those things that like, even when I announced it I was like, ‘I can’t take it back now. It’s final. I can’t believe... what did I just get myself into?’ Because the Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world. It’s an entertainer’s dream to be on the stage like that, but it’s nerve-racking. You wanna get it right. You know everybody’s watching. And they’re rooting for you, and I wanna get it right. It’s a challenge I was willing to accept. Being a new mom, nothing would have gotten me out of the house if it wasn’t a challenge like that.”
She added, “It was now or never. Yeah, for sure. For sure. You can get real comfortable at home as a mom.”
She then shared a little about what her daily mom experience has been like and her favorite part.
“Oh my god, the mornings, like, seeing his morning face!” Rihanna declared. “Seeing a baby with, like, little bags and waking up, and they’re just, like, startled. They’re trying to figure out where they’re at. It’s the cutest, it’s my favorite part of the day.”
The Grammy-winning singer walked the red carpet with Rocky at the premiere of Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It was their first red carpet event since the birth of their son. Rihanna’s singles “Lift Me Up” and “Born Again” appeared on the soundtrack for Ryan Coogler’s Marvel sequel.
The premiere was held at the Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, where Rihanna wore a sparkly, strapless dress by designer Rick Owens and a pair of opera gloves and matching pointed-toe heels.
Rocky matched his girlfriend in tone with an oversized khaki jacket and matching pants with a black T-shirt underneath.
A source told Entertainment Tonight that Rihanna hopes to expand her family with Rocky someday.
They added she has “dreamed of being a mom,” and would “love nothing more” than to have more kids with the rapper.
“Rihanna and A$AP are so in love and have the best time together,” the source added. “They are also a great team when it comes to being parents to their baby boy. Rihanna always dreamed of being a mom and she takes a lot of pride in it. She would love to have more children with A$AP in the future.”
Rihanna shared her baby’s face for the first time with a debut TikTok video.
In the adorable video, the baby is strapped in his car seat and smiling and gurgling as Rihanna speaks to him off-camera. She asks him, “You tryna get Mommy’s phone?”
He smiles in response.
Rihanna captioned the video, “Hacked.”
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Rocky shared what it’s been like to be a dad and share a family with Rihanna.
“Oh, man,” he said when first asked about Rihanna’s upcoming halftime show. “I’m just as excited as you guys, if not more. Yeah, I’m super excited. This is as huge. This is incredible. I’m so glad that my lady’s back making music again and whatnot, and getting back out there. It’s just incredible. Especially for both of us, it is a good year for both of us to be more active and be out there. But the Super Bowl is huge, and her being the creative she is she going to bring it, man. I’m excited. I’m more excited than everybody else, honestly.”
He went onto say about fatherhood, “It’s so unexplainable. It’s just one of those things. I’m a member of our club now, like the dad club. You see a dad, you see me. I’m playing on, I’m a full dad now. Being outside and working and being creative, it drives more energy for you…to think and soak things up like a sponge now that I’m a dad, because I have a whole ’nother perspective. But it honestly helps you get home to your family and get home to your baby. And I can’t even explain it, man. You come home to heaven every day. I’m so thankful. God is good, man.”
That same month, the couple made a glamorous appearance at the Golden Globe awards, where Rihanna was nominated for Best Original Song, Motion Picture. Rihanna wore a gorgeous black gown by Schiaparelli couture and accessorized with Giuseppe Zanotti shoes and a Cartier diamond necklace and earrings.
As Rihanna got ready for her Super Bowl performance, she was working extremely hard to prepare.
A source told Entertainment Tonight, “Rihanna has been preparing for her Super Bowl LVII halftime show for months and wants it to be the most iconic performance. She really kicked things into gear and got right to work after she received the call.”
They also explained she’s been non-stop in the studio and has been “very hands on with every detail throughout the entire process.”
“It is super exciting for her to get back out there and perform since having her son and she feels rejuvenated after taking some time off,” they explained.
To do all of this, especially with an eight-month-old son, Rihanna has been receiving a lot of support from her boyfriend.
“A$AP has been very supportive throughout her preparation and has really been stepping up his parenting game while she has been busy with rehearsals,” the source said. “[A$AP] and her son plan to be there supporting her during her big day.”
During the Super Bowl, Rihanna announced her second pregnancy with Rocky.
She spoke in a British Vogue interview published days later about life with their baby boy. “We’re best friends with a baby,” she said with a laugh. “We have to be on the same page, but we’ve always kind of had that in our relationship. Everything changes when you have a baby but I wouldn’t say it’s done anything but made us closer.”
Rihanna and Rocky continued making appearances out and about as a couple. Rocky joined Rihanna at the Oscars where she performed, and footage went viral of him cheering for her at the ceremony.

Rocky dropped his second hint of summer 2023 that he and Rihanna may be married with the release of his song “Riot.” His lyrics included, “My wife is erotic, I’m smokin’ exotic (Woo, woo) / My whip is exotic, my crib is a cottage (Woo, woo, woo).” In the second verse, he teased a potential music project with her: “New collab’ with my baby mom (Woo, woo, woo),” and he also name-dropped her later in the song: “Pass on a sweetie, I got me a RiRi.”
Neither Rocky nor Rihanna commented on the marriage rumors or confirmed them. In June, Rocky had called Rihanna his “wife” during a Cannes performance.
On July 31, a source spoke to Entertainment Tonight about how the couple was now in Los Angeles, awaiting the birth of their second child who was due any day at that point.
Rihanna and Rocky “are each other’s rock,” the source said, adding that they have “been really great about prioritizing their relationship even as busy parents,” per the outlet.
Rihanna and Rocky welcomed their second son, Riot, on August 1 in Los Angeles. The news came out publicly weeks later.
A source told People on August 22 that “Rihanna feels her family is now complete.” Being a parent to two children, “it’s something she’s always wanted.”
On August 24, a source told Entertainment Tonight that “Rihanna and A$AP will spend the early days of parenthood out of the public eye and won’t make any immediate plans to debut the new baby,” the source said.
“Rihanna and A$AP are great right now,” the source continued. “They’re so excited to grow their family and are so united when it comes to parenting. They have so much fun together and are very in love. They already shared a special connection and parenting together has made their bond even stronger.”
Five weeks after Rihanna gave birth to her second son, his name was revealed. The Blast obtained his birth certificate and shared that Rihanna welcomed Riot Rose Mayers on August 1, 2023 in Los Angeles at 7:41 A.M.
Rocky notably released a song called “Riot” in July where he discussed his family in the lyrics.
A source told Entertainment Tonight on October 4 that Rocky and Rihanna are doing great as a family of four. “Rihanna and A$AP are doing amazing since welcoming Riot,” the source said. “RZA loves being a big brother, and they’re all very happy. Rihanna and A$AP are great at prioritizing Riot and RZA. They have been making sure to carve out time for each child so that they both feel special and loved. It’s been a great time for their family.”

In December, a source told Us Weekly that the couple is considering more children in future and that Rihanna would love to have a little girl in the family after her two boys.
“Rihanna adores her boys, but she’d still love to have a girl one day,” the insider claimed. “She’s always wanted lots of kids, so that’s definitely something they discussed.”
Right now, a second insider said that the couple is “thrilled to be living out their dreams together.”
Close to the holidays, Rihanna told Page Six that having kids has changed her love for her boyfriend, saying, “I love him differently as a dad. This is major, major...it’s a turn on. It’s just like, wow. What a leader, what a great, patient loving...and my kids are obsessed with him.”

On February 14, Rocky and Rihanna were photographed on a dinner date at César restaurant in Paris. Rihanna dressed up in a nude tank top and satin skirt, accessorizing with a 15-carat diamond necklace. It marks one of the couple’s most public Valentine’s Days together.
For Rihanna’s 36th birthday, the couple celebrated in Venice. People ran photos of Rocky and Rihanna kissing on a boat in the Grand Canal on February 21. Rihanna wore a leather coat, white sweater, and what appears to be a white miniskirt.
Rihanna spoke about when her romance with Rocky really begun in an interview for Interview magazine.
She met Rocky in the days leading up to their 2012 MTV VMAs performance. “He grabbed my ass!” she said. “So that was the day that we thought we met. At rehearsal, so it was, like, manager to manager, client to client. So when he grabbed my ass that night, everybody thought I was about to—my team was worried that I wanted to have his head on a fucking mantle.” She laughed. “But I was like, ‘Ah, nah.’ That’s why everybody was like, ‘Oh my god. And past that, when we grew up, we ended up supporting each other’s brands and products and creative all the time. I would wear his shit, he would show up to my launches. Rihanna and Rocky were photographed walking in New York City on July 13, both dressed casually. Rihanna wore an Outkast jersey and purple cargo pants, while Rocky was in a gray T-shirt with dark jeans.
On August 2, Rocky shared rare photos of baby Riot to celebrate his second son’s firtst birthday.
“HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY TO MY 2ND BORN SON RIOT ROSE MAYERS,” he captioned the carousel of pictures.
The images included pictures of him holding Riot and his older son RZA, playing with the baby in the living room, and even FaceTiming him while traveling and making little Riot smile long distance.
On Saturday, August 10, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky enjoyed a boat ride on a luxury yacht in Barbados. Rihanna wore a minidress in neon green semi sheer fabric with a zebra print graphic. She was carrying a purse in the same print and wore a gold chain necklace and sunglasses. She wore her hair down and curly. The couple were photographed embracing, laughing, and whispering in each other’s ears.
At the end of the month, the rapper was interviewed by Billboard in a TikTok and ended up sharing his perspective on raising children together with another famous person. The interviewer commented that their sons have had a very different type of childhood from himself, who grew up in Harlem, New York. Rocky insisted “they do” have the same kind of life he did.

On October 10, Rihanna shared a bit about her relationship with Rocky’s family while being interviewed at the Savage X Fenty Celebration of Lavish Lace Debut at Nordstrom Century City in Los Angeles. An E! News reporter asked the star was traditions she was excited about sharing with her family.
“Spooky season, next is Thanksgiving with my in-laws, cause that’s not a thing in Barbados and then Christmas,” she replied.
When the reported pointed out she’d said in-laws, Rihanna answered, “That’s my family for life regardless.”
Shortly after, A$AP Rocky shared more details of their relationship in an issue of W Magazine. The rapper explained how he knew Rihanna was “The One.”
“I knew from when we were younger. We both did, I think. So it was only right when we got older. We just kind of reconnected,” he explained.
The issue included a photoshoot of the Merce Hotel. Of the venue, Rocky said, “This is very special because this is the first place she fell in love with me...Virgil Abloh shot the music video for ‘Fashion Killa’ in 2012, and that was the same couch where Rihanna and I sat in the first scene… That was that same room.”
He also said a bit about their two boys and their different personalities.
“I think Rza is going to keep to himself,” said Rocky. “He’s an introvert. Riot’s an extrovert—he’s just like his mom. Rza is more so like his dad, like me. And he’s my twin...He got his mom’s forehead, but he got everything else from me. I love my boy’s big forehead! I loved it on his mother.”
Talking about where he finds support, Rocky said he got it “from my woman, from my partner. She knows when to hold it down...I think we both have our niches, our things that we do that we’re good at. She could never be a great dad, because she's a great mom… And I could never be a great mom, because I'm the greatest dad in the whole wide world.”
On Friday, October 18, the couple made an appearance at the Moncler City of Genius event at Shanghai Fashion Week wearing matching red and orange. The couple held hands as they walked through the crowd and in pictures shared by the Daily Mail, the music star snuck up behind her boyfriend and gave him a kiss on the neck. The rapper was one of the collaborators at the event, along with Donald Glover and Willow Smith.
On December 2, Rihanna and Rocky returned to the British Fashion Awards, where they first posed together in 2019. Rihanna supported her partner as he took home the Cultural Innovator Award. Rocky wore Bottega Veneta, while Rihanna stood out in a blue fuzzy ensemble that was a vintage Christian Lacroix haute couture look.
After the ceremony, the couple changed and continued their night at Chiltern Firehouse. They left the venue at 4 A.M., per Daily Mail. Rihanna was in all black, while Rocky wore an olive top, tan jacket, and cream snakeskin pants.
For Valentine’s Day, Rihanna celebrated her love with a throwback video from Paris of her and Rocky enjoying the beautiful city together. In the montage of clips, they walked hand-in-hand by the Eiffel Tower, dance together, drink wine, play on the stairs, and at one point, he carries her on his back down the street.
In the caption, the singer wrote, “get u a valentine that still writes love letters 😉💌”
On February 21, Rihanna spoke about Rocky in her Harper’s Bazaar cover story. She said her favorite thing about him is “seeing him be a dad. His pureness. His charm. I’m annoyed because my sons sometimes just live for him more than they live for me. And I’m like, ‘Did you know who cooked you? Do you know who pushed you out?’ And they love him, but when I see it, oh, it’s the best.”
Rihanna also appreciates how Rocky keeps their relationship fun and romantic with their regular dates. She said, “He always reminds me, no matter how hard everything is that we’re dealing with in our life, in our careers and as parents, he’s like, ‘Remember when we were friends? Remember when we just used to have fun as friends?’”
In mid-March, A$AP Rocky shared some thoughts on his relationship while speaking with Mystery Fashionist. He called Rihanna his wife, thought he two are not officially married.
“That’s my son—she my son,” Rocky said. “Birds of a feather, flock together. I’m gonna ride till wheels fall off like she do. That’s my dog, that’s my n***a, that’s my bitch, that’s my wife, that’s my everything.”
In April, in an interview with Vogue for the May issue cover story, Rocky gushed about her again, saying his love for Rihanna is “internal, external, infinite, the past, the future.” He also praised her style, saying the couple’s two sons, 2-year-old RZA and 1-year-old Riot, already have some dandy style in them ahead of the 2025 Met Gala, where the theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” “Look who they moms is. She dress her ass off,” he gushed.
Rocky compared RZA and Riot’s personalities, saying, “The older one [RZA], he stays to himself—he likes his books.” Riot, meanwhile, seeks attention. “He likes to take stuff from his brother so his brother can chase him.”
In an episode of The Run-Through with Vogue podcast, Rocky discussed some of his thoughts on fashion as one of the Met Gala 2025 co-chairs. He shared he sometimes snags some of Rihanna’s clothes when dressing up.
“Man, pardon my language, I do what the fuck I want,” he explained. “I want to represent, I want to be a catalyst for daring men.”
He continued, “I don’t know who drew the line between femininity—or just being feminine —and masculinity, excuse me. I don’t know who drew that line, but I don’t see any barriers for me.”
He added that it is not “fair” that Rihanna could theoretically wear his style and not vice versa.
“That goes both ways,” the rapper said, saying there are pieces “she don’t know that I actually stole.”
He added, “Sometimes you can see her on an interview or see a paparazzi photo like, ‘Wait. There goes my Miu Miu fucking jacket! Like, what the fuck? I was looking for that since 2021.’”
