Adıyaman is located on the southern slopes of the Malatya Mountains (Southeast Taurus Mountains). 52% of Adıyaman's land consists of mountains. This ratio is reflected in the same proportion to the number of mountains in the province when reflected in the elevation.

Within the provincial borders, there are more than 25 peaks over 2000 meters, while there are more than 8 peaks over 2500 meters. These mountains, which cover a wide area in the form of tight rows leaning on each other, descend as you go south and merge with the Southeastern Anatolian plains.

In the northern part where the bare ridges of the Southeastern Taurus Mountains extend, there are high peaks. Akdağ (2551 m), Dibek Mountain (2549 m), Ulubaba Mountain (2533 m), Gördük Mountain (2206 m) and Nemrut Mountain (2100 m) and the southern side is covered with fertile plains and plateaus.

The lowest point is where the Euphrates River and the Göksun Stream meet. This is 650 m above sea level.

The Taurus Mountains divide the province into two. The north of the Besni-Adıyaman-Kahta region is mountainous, rugged and bare. The south is plains and green. The average altitude is around 1000 m.
