What temperament type do you have?
HOW IS TEMPERAMENT FORMED?

Temperament develops largely due to genetic factors. Research shows that 20% to 60% of temperament is determined by genetic inheritance. Therefore, it's common to have similar temperaments to your parents or grandparents.

However, environmental factors during childhood can also shape temperament. For example, someone growing up in a violent family environment may be more withdrawn and melancholic.

FOUR BASIC TEMPERAMENT TYPES

Temperament theory is an approach whose roots date back to Ancient Greece. The distribution of these temperament types may vary across societies, depending on factors such as culture, age, and gender.

Sanguine (Cheerful and social)

People with a sanguine temperament are outgoing, energetic, and social. They're often found in crowds and enjoy conversation. However, this nature can sometimes lead them to act without thinking. Their thrill-seeking can turn into harmful habits.

Choleric (Goal-oriented and leadership spirit)

Choleric individuals are dominant, assertive, and goal-oriented. They often hold leadership positions and are known for their ability to make quick decisions. However, traits such as impatience and stubbornness can complicate their social interactions.

Phlegmatic (Calm and harmonious)

Phlegmatic people are calm, patient, and understanding. They prefer to live by routine and don't show much emotion. This trait makes them trustworthy, but being too passive can lead to them missing opportunities.

Melancholic (Thoughtful and meticulous)

Although melancholic individuals are often described as "sad" or "unhappy," they are actually sensitive, thoughtful, and analytical. In their professional lives, they pay attention to detail and work systematically. However, they prefer to work alone and can be sensitive to change.

HOW DO YOU DETERMINE YOUR TEMPERAMENT?

Although there are many tests available in the virtual world to measure your temperament, their reliability is questionable.

The two most commonly used tests are listed as follows:
  • Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator (MBTI)
  • Big Five Personality Traits

However, the most accurate results are obtained through an evaluation conducted by a psychological counselor or mental health professional. IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE TEMPERAMENT?

Not every individual fits perfectly into a single temperament type. There is usually a dominant temperament, but some traits from other temperaments may also be observed.
