A fine of 17 million lira was requested for the producer who cut up the watermelons he could not sell!

In the Geyve district of Sakarya, producer S.Ç. and SE, who were with him, threw down and smashed watermelons they wanted to sell when their contracted wholesaler backed out of business at the last minute. S.Ç. and SE said they took the watermelons to the wholesaler they had previously agreed on, but when the purchase didn't materialize, they acted angrily and regretted it.
PROCESS STARTEDLegal proceedings were initiated against S.Ç. and SE under Law No. 5957 on Fruit and Vegetable Trade. The case was referred to the Unfair Price Assessment Board for assessment of administrative fines ranging from 1.4 million TL to 17.2 million TL per person.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade issued a statement saying, "Our top priority is to maintain the economic balance and food safety throughout the entire process, from the production of agricultural products to their delivery to consumers. We will absolutely not tolerate the waste of agricultural products, the repetition of such images that wound the public conscience, or market-distorting behavior. The most severe administrative sanctions will be imposed against actions that disrupt market functioning."
