Where will Poles head this long weekend? They're particularly fond of one destination.

The long August weekend is fast approaching, and Poles will be scattered across the country in search of tourist attractions. According to data from a travel booking website, the mountains will be a more popular destination this year. This is the first time in years that mountain resorts have enjoyed greater popularity among Polish tourists.
The booking portal Travelist.pl has published data indicating that the Polish mountains will be the destination for the next long weekend, beginning on the afternoon of Thursday, August 14th. According to accurate estimates, 42% of those choosing to spend their holidays away from home will choose the Polish mountains. A slightly smaller percentage, 38%, will head to the Baltic Sea.
The difference is small, but it's worth noting that this is the first time in years that such a predominance of interest in the mountains has occurred over the seaside. The difference is even more striking when comparing travel interest to last year. In 2025, 3 percent fewer people expressed a desire to go to the seaside, while interest in the mountains increased by 10 percent.
Why do Poles choose a weekend in the mountains?Experts point to the unfavorable weather in July, the period when most August travel decisions are made, as the reason for the increased interest in the mountains. A stay there isn't entirely dependent on good weather.
The price of accommodation is also significant. In the mountains, it averages 690 złoty per night, while on the Baltic Sea, it's 100 złoty more. Therefore, the cost of a stay in the mountains is on average 13% lower than at the seaside. This doesn't change the fact that seaside resorts are still among the most frequently visited Polish destinations.
Nineteen percent of tourists will visit Kołobrzeg, Mielno, Międzyzdroje, and Gdańsk this weekend. In the mountains, the most popular destinations are the Sudetes (19%) and the Beskids (10%). Interest in lakes, where an average night's stay costs 780 PLN, has declined. Seven percent of tourists will choose these destinations, representing a 4 percentage point drop in interest.
