Voted the best hotel in Europe. Located on the famous lake

This hotel could be on many travelers' dream lists. It's located in one of the most beautiful locations in Europe, on Lake Como in the Italian Lombardy region. The picturesque setting has been attracting movie stars for years, as well as travelers seeking luxury—or at least a semblance of it. This option definitely belongs to the upper echelons of luxury.
The best hotel in EuropeThe boutique hotel Passalacqua overlooks the village of Montrasio on Lake Como. It was ranked 4th on the list of the 50 Best Hotels in the World for 2025. This isn't its first accolade.
The property is located on land that belonged to Pope Innocent XI in the 16th century. Count Andrea Lucini Passalacqua built a magnificent villa here in the early 19th century. It hosted aristocrats and the opera composer Vincenzo Bellini, who composed two operas here, "Norma" and "La sonnambula."
In 2018, the de Santis family purchased the villa. After several years of renovation, a boutique hotel opened in 2022. Such properties, transformed from palaces and historic buildings, are expected to be the new trend in 2026 .
The hotel consists of three sections: the main villa, an eight-room palace, and a lakeside house. The interiors are decorated in a Baroque style of elegance. The grounds offer stunning views of Como, and a swimming pool is located on the terrace in front of the main villa. Guests will also be captivated by the spa area, located in the basement and featuring atmospheric lighting.
In contrast to the opulent décor, the kitchen is more casual, serving dishes based on simple ingredients. Guests can walk in and chat with chef Viviana Varese, "as if you were in a private home."
Prices can be dizzying, starting at PLN 5,100 per night for two adults. Another European hotel has made it into the Top 10 of the World's Best 50 Hotels ranking: the Four Seasons Firenze in Florence.
How are the best hotels in the world chosen? The World's Best 50 Hotels ranking is based on the votes of 800 anonymous experts.
Participants vote for seven hotels around the world, ranking them in order of preference. They must visit all the properties they vote for (within two years prior to the voting period) and spend at least one night there.
