Junkers aims to conquer Italian airspace. Spectacular premiere in Venice

The world's first metal Junkers aircraft is beginning a new chapter, this time in Italy. At Venice's Nicelli Airport on July 15th, aviation fans and those who appreciate unique design were able to participate in a unique and exclusive celebration, celebrating not only Junkers's grand entry into the Italian market but also its aviation heritage. It was spectacular!
Junkers is a legendary German aviation brand whose innovative approach to aircraft design significantly influenced the history of aviation. It was founded by Hugo Junkers, one of the most important pioneers and visionaries of modern aviation. It was to Junkers that the world can owe its first all-metal aircraft – the Junkers J1.
Previously, aircraft wings were constructed of wood and wrapped in fabric. Currently, the brand focuses on creating aircraft that are not only designed to soar but also to impress with their design. The modern Junkers are gems – for all those who appreciate the combination of technology and striking design. The planes, with their retro aesthetic, captivate both lovers of Italian design and German craftsmanship.
Italy opens airspace for JunkersJunkers' arrival in Italy was accompanied by spectacular celebrations, which every aviation fan was sure to watch with excitement. This was all thanks to the incredible location. Company representatives chose one of the most beautiful airports on the island of Lido for the inaugural spectacle.
Beyond the scenery itself, it's worth taking a historical moment here. It's here that the terminal, opened in 1935, is located, and its architecture remains captivating to this day. Designed by Mario Emmer, the building realized his vision of elegance and modernity. The frescoes by futurist Guglielmo "Tato" Sansoni are also noteworthy. The terminal itself also features works dedicated to aviation, and the building's form is undoubtedly a jewel of 1930s modernist architecture.
The idea to build an airport in this very spot was born in 1926. Previously, this place had been a prestigious landing strip, which was then decided to be transformed into a civilian airport, launching the first commercial flight (to Vienna), operated by Transadriatica, using a Junkers aircraft.
Demonstrative flights and piloting of aircraft by civiliansAviation enthusiasts gathered at Venice Airport were treated to an exceptionally immersive event that allowed them to experience the splendor of aviation firsthand. In addition to spectacular demonstration flights, there was also the opportunity to co-pilot a Junkers A50 over the Venetian lagoon. Those who preferred to stay on the ground had the rare opportunity to see these iconic models in person.
Junkers enters the Italian marketJunkers will be staying at the Italian airport for a while longer. The Junkers Aircraft brand has just announced the opening of its first headquarters in Italy, at Nicelli Airport. According to brand representatives, the Junkers headquarters will be open to visitors who want to experience aviation history firsthand. The showroom, located in a restored Esso fueling station, will combine vintage aesthetics with modern, innovative solutions. The first exclusive test flights, which will conquer Italian airspace, have been announced for 2025.
"Our mission is to bring the beauty of flight back to life. Italy, with its deep passion for lifestyle, design, and freedom, is the perfect place to begin our new chapter," concluded Dieter Morszech, CEO of Junkers Aircraft.
