Foo Fighters have a new drummer. Who will replace Josh Frees?

After Foo Fighters parted ways with drummer Josh Freese in May, a new musician joined the band. Ilan Rubin will replace Freese on drums. He will accompany the band on tour for now. However, it's unclear whether he will join the band permanently.
Ilan Rubin , 37, who has been touring with Nine Inch Nails since 2009, will accompany the band during shows in Jakarta, Singapore, and Mexico , reports The Hollywood Reporter. However, it remains unclear whether his role will be limited to participating in the fall shows or whether he will be offered a permanent position with the band.
In 2020, Rubin became the youngest musician ever inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the Cleveland Museum of Rock.
Rubin replaced Josh Freese after the veteran drummer, who has worked with bands including Guns N' Roses, Nine Inch Nails, and A Perfect Circle, was fired from Foo Fighters. Freese joined the band in 2023 following the death of Taylor Hawkins and accompanied the band on tour promoting their album "But Here We Are."
His dismissal came as a surprise to many. Freese also made no secret of his shock at the band's decision, which, as he stated in a statement, was to go in a different direction. In the statement, the drummer revealed that he didn't know the official reason for his dismissal.
"I've enjoyed the last two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they think is best for the band. In 40 years of professional drumming, I've never been fired from a band, so I'm not angry—just a little shocked and disappointed. But, as most of you know, I've always worked freelance and changed bands, so it's all good," he said.
For Foo Fighters, 2025 is a time not only of intense work but also of reflection. It marks the 30th anniversary of their founding. The band has decided to honor this special anniversary with a special release – the single "Today's Song," which was released on July 2nd.
