6 tips to get your border ready for summer

In June you can prepare your garden for the summer months. If the borders are not yet completely full, you can easily go through the plants to get things in order. With a little love and attention, you can ensure that your borders will get through the summer well.

You don't have to do a lot of work to get a healthy and blooming border in the summer, as long as you do what is necessary now.

Spring bloomers can be cut off the flowers , which is important to get strong plants. You remove the faded flowers. The plant will then put more energy into leaf growth and roots. If you want plants to sow, leave the seeds.

Now is the time to place plant supports for tall, flowering plants. Think of peonies ,delphiniums and hollyhocks . You can choose from all kinds of plant supports, such as metal spirals or a round plant support.

Check your climbers and tie them up so that the main tendrils are firmly attached. From there tendrils will develop. Make sure that the intended space that the plant may take up is evenly covered with new shoots.

Tip: Most climbing plants will develop more flowers if you tie them horizontally.

Make sure you hoe the ground where you walked, so that the ground is loose again. You want to avoid compact soil. Do you come across unwanted, rampant 'weeds' ? Then remove them.
