Mon Laferte vindicates Violeta Parra's legacy in Mexico

Chilean-Mexican singer Mon Laferte declared this Tuesday in Mexico her total admiration for the late artist and performer Violeta Parra , one of her main influences due to the rebelliousness with which she lived her life.
"Since I was a teenager I liked how punk Violeta was, I found that rebellious attitude towards life, and that rebellious spirit, Violeta was like a rocker and that rebellious spirit is what I love to this day," she said at a press conference.
The interpreter of 'Tu falta de querer' presented the exhibition 'Recolectoras' in Guadalajara, in which she pays tribute to Parra in a dialogue between the plastic work of both women.
Mon Laferte said she has always wanted to emulate the rebelliousness and sensitivity that Parra brought to his musical and popular art work.
The exhibition 'Recolectoras', part of the International Music Fair ( FIM ), opens on Tuesday night at the Museum of Arts in Guadalajara.
The exhibition is made up of pieces that Parra mounted at the Louvre Museum of Decorative Arts in 1964, as well as a portrait of Violeta and a burlap made by Mon Laferte especially for the occasion.
There are also works from Mon Laferte 's ' Autopoietics ' project, inaugurated in Santiago de Chile in 2024.
Mon Laferte claimed the legacy of her compatriot, considered one of the greatest artists in Chilean history.

"Violeta used to say: 'sit at the piano, destroy the meter'. Violeta was not a student of the visual arts, but she expressed herself and I keep that in mind, I am her daughter, if you want to express yourself (let it be) from the heart , there is nothing more to it than that," she said.
Javiera Parra , singer and granddaughter of Violeta Parra , said that this is the first time that her grandmother's artistic work has been shown in Mexico, as a way of keeping alive a legacy that has crossed borders.
"It is not a legacy that is inside museums, it is a living legacy of Violeta, it is felt in the streets (of Chile), people sing her, the generation chooses her to fight their battles, she is an authoritative voice despite having died," he said.
The curator of the exhibition, Beatriz Bustos , pointed out that the exhibition has common points such as pain, heartbreak and social criticism that characterize the creations of Parra and Mon Laferte .
- In addition to the exhibition , the artist will participate this Wednesday in a talk open to the public with Javiera Parra and both will perform some songs as a tribute to the singer-songwriter, who died in 1967 .
The FIM, from February 26 to March 1, will have activities for professionals and conferences with personalities from the music industry, and will conclude with the Portamérica Latitudes Festival , which has Mon Laferte and Los Ángeles Azules as the main artists.
