George Harris faces boycott at Viña del Mar Festival

On Sunday night, the Viña del Mar Festival experienced moments of great tension during the performance of Venezuelan comedian George Harris. From the moment he went on stage, a group of attendees began to boycott his routine, causing discomfort to both the artist and the Venezuelans present in the audience.
"If you don't like it , go buy a drink (...) I can't believe that someone would buy a ticket to whistle all night. They're not letting the people who paid to come see me enjoy themselves," said Harris, visibly upset.
Despite the hostile environment, the comedian continued his show, but the tension remained. In an attempt to calm the situation , Harris said: "Let's calm down, guys, this is complicated. I didn't come to make anyone's life miserable. If you want me to leave, I'll leave. It's okay. My plane leaves for the United States in two days. I came to give you my love, but if you want me to leave, this is your country and I respect you. But I'm an international artist who came to give my best, not to fight or have a bad time."
Fifteen minutes later, Harris decided to take his leave . While Venezuelans in the audience were calling for the Gaviota , others continued to whistle, and the event's hosts tried to intervene so that he could continue his performance. However, the comedian interrupted his show again and left the stage. "What a shame that the bad guys always win. What a shame that people, the majority, miss a show because there are a few who want to whistle the whole show," he said, leaving a message of gratitude to Chile and Venezuela: "Thank you, Venezuela, for filling this place."
Despite the insistence of the hosts , Harris returned to the stage once again to offer a musical block that he had previously prepared. After this, he said goodbye to the audience for good.
The incident sparked outrage among many attendees, who decided to leave Quinta Vergara in solidarity with Harris. Some expressed their discontent, calling the behavior of the spectators who boycotted the performance "xenophobic."
In the hours that followed, Harris shared a message on her Instagram stories: "We did what we could, my people. I'm so sorry, I love you," accompanied by a heart and the Venezuelan flag.
- Harris' participation in the Viña del Mar Festival was marked by a great controversy before his performance, due to old comments by the comedian on social media .
- Users recalled Harris' previous criticisms of the left, Salvador Allende, and comments about the death of actor Matthew Perry, prompting many to call for her to withdraw from the event.
Despite the controversy, Harris responded to the criticism in a live video, defending her participation and assuring that the Chilean public would enjoy her show. In a defiant tone, she commented: "To those very few people who have written that: let's stop blocking things. We're going to enjoy the show and the Chilean public is going to have a great time."
She also offered some advice to her detractors: "A piece of advice I give my haters : don't make your life miserable, that brings illness, depression (...) Live life. Try to make one of those recipes that you write. Make a good rice dish, make chicken, invite someone to eat at your house, take care of yourselves."
