The highly expressive masks of the Basque Kulunka Theater arrive at the Condal

The Kulunka Teatro bassists have not come to Barcelona since 2016, but they have visited 36 countries with six unique stage objectives, some with masks. They arrive at the Condal Theater, in the Grec, with the latest show, Forever, which explains the story of a normal family that sees life as difficult and not complex as it expects.
Iñaki Rikarte, Garbiñe Insausti, Edu Cárcamo and José Dault are the creators; Rikarte is also the director and the three others are the performers. “For 15 years I explore the language of the masks, and there has been a surprise with the impact on the public and the traveler who has had it –assenyala Cárcamo–. Forever is a large-format spectacle, with an important technical and dramaturgical repte, from gairebé two years of creation, while it rotates with others "It is very easy for any viewer to feel identified with the one I explained."
The Basque company ensures that its universal themes are equal to all the world."The great reputation of the company and the great virtue of dramaturgy - Matisa Dault -. We work as a team and the great difficulty is to obtain the score of everyday actions, which will achieve what happens to the characters. When addressing a topic that arouses interest and curiosity, we pose a paradox of how it is possible for a normal family “arrived in such an extreme situation. It is something that, at least now, is difficult to explain.”
But not everything has been easy in this exploration of the language of the masks: "At the beginning, with the reduced vision of the mask, it was difficult to finish and to get the most out of us - confesses Dault -. The great surprise of the public is how it is possible to explain so many things with the masks inert, let them arrive to veure riure and plorar, but això ho poses the public.” I warned: “It is a spectacle recommended for older than 14 years.”
"In addition to the technical score, there is an emotional score, which is our unwritten text - continues Dault -. The mask for the ego of an author is very good because it annihilates him. You are at the service of the function." I remember the vital change that the company has made in these years: “We now have to reconcile both of our children, and we don't do it for 12 hours, but rather during daycare hours.”

The revolving stage achieves a magical cinematographic effect, with a pla sequence. It symbolizes the voltes that life gives," explains Dault.
"The first time we go to Nepal we are afraid of not being together, because the gestures change. But our surprise is going to be very big because it is going to understand everything. And something similar is going to happen to Xina. There are many more things that unite them than that separate them."
“The fears that we touch are universal, here it is in Asia: family, love, malice... And so all the countries are in action,” says Cárcamo. "Let's try to understand the human condition, with its complexities and its six contradictions. My això is common to everyone. The emotional moments are very emotional, and the comics are also very comics. But there is no morality," concluded Dault.
According to Daniel Anglès, director of the Condal theatre, Kulunka offers an essential theatre, both unique and with a very special way of explaining a story. However, unfortunately it is not enough to serve paraules, the Max award for best theatrical authorship will be awarded in 2024 for Forever.
