New obstacle in the trial for Maradona's death: one of the judges asked to be excused for health reasons.

Judge Alejandro Horacio Lago, who was assigned to serve in the retrial for Diego Maradona 's death following the scandal surrounding the documentary starring Judge Julieta Makintach , was excused due to health problems.
According to the document obtained by Agencia Noticias Argentinas , Lago was notified that he will not be able to participate in the panel in charge of the new trial due to health issues, which are supported by medical certifications.
"The accompanying medical certificate duly confirms the alleged health condition, which, by requiring prolonged treatment— which will require a six-month leave of absence— compromises the full and sustained exercise of his jurisdictional functions to address the intensity and emotional burden of this trial, given its complexity and the length of the hearings," the document states.
In light of this situation, the excuse was accepted "in order not to affect the normal conduct of the proceedings and to guarantee the integrity and impartiality of the Court."
Consequently, the decision must be communicated to the Presidency of the Honorable Chamber of Appeals and Guarantees in Criminal Matters of the San Isidro Judicial Department, so that "a new qualified judge may be appointed to serve as a member of this Court in these proceedings."
The next step will be to hold a lottery to designate the replacement, and once the new member is appointed, another notification will be sent.
On June 19, the draw was held, confirming that Court No. 7 of San Isidro will be in charge of the new trial for Maradona's death after the first hearing was declared void due to an unauthorized production. The presiding judges were Roberto Gaig, Alejandro Lago, and Alberto Ortolani.
The latter belongs to TOC No. 1 because Judge María Coelho, head of the Oral Criminal Court (TOC) No. 7, "is not on the list" because nurse Dahiana Gisela Madrid is presiding over the popular jury trial.
Even so, after Lago's departure, a new lottery will have to be held to designate the judge who will replace him.
