Argentine missing in Germany: search for Conicet researcher has been ongoing for three days

Alejandro Matías Fracaroli, a 44-year-old scientist from Córdoba, has been missing since the beginning of this week in the city of Karlsruhe, Germany , where he has lived since September.

Fracaroli, who was in the European country conducting research in the field of chemistry, has been missing for three days. His whereabouts disappeared while he was returning from his workplace to his home.

Alejandro is a recognized figure in the academic and scientific fields. He is a researcher at Conicet , a professor at the Faculty of Chemical Sciences of the National University of Córdoba (UNC), and a member of the Department of Organic Chemistry at the UNC and the Institute for Physical-Chemical Research of Córdoba (INFIQC).

The Cordoban was in southern Germany, where he was conducting a research stay at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), a center dedicated to nanotechnology, with plans to stay until December.

The last confirmed contact, according to Córdoba media, was recorded on Monday, October 13, in Karlsruhe. That day, shortly before 7:00 p.m. local time , he was last seen. Sources who contacted Infobae indicated that Fracaroli left his job on the university campus and boarded the bus that connects the complex to the city.

The last person to communicate with him was his partner, Gabriela Furlan , with whom he had a WhatsApp video call that same Monday. Furlan described the conversation as normal and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. However , after 7 p.m., his cell phone went off, there was no further communication, and his address is unknown.

Furlan assured the media outlet La Voz that “ They activated a search request from the Argentine consulate to the German authorities .”

Conicet on alert

Concern about Alejandro's condition is spreading among colleagues and friends in the province of Córdoba. Mónica Balzarini , director of Conicet Córdoba, stated that the scientific community remains on alert for any new developments.

The director commented that so far they have no information about why the disappearance occurred, explaining to the Córdoba media outlet: "He is not in hospitals or police stations in the area, and security cameras have not yet revealed any relevant information."

His disappearance mobilized family members and colleagues in Argentina, as well as the international scientific community and diplomatic authorities, who issued announcements about his whereabouts and contact information on social media. Conicet Córdoba shared a photo of the man on its Instagram account, commenting on the situation and providing contact numbers. The photo is available in English.

The statement reads: “His name is Alejandro Matías Fracaroli , he is from Córdoba, Argentina, and he has been missing since Monday, October 13, in the city of Karlsruhe, Germany, or nearby areas. He may be disoriented and not fully aware of his current situation .”

According to information provided by Fracaroli's entourage, the information provided by German authorities has been limited. Initially, this was due to data protection regulations, which made it difficult for the family, who were not in the country, to intervene.

A cousin of Fracaroli, a resident of an area near Karlsruhe, was able to facilitate German communication.

The only thing they know for sure is that he boarded the bus from the university complex to return home, which he never reached. Somewhere along the way, he disappeared, and his whereabouts have been unknown for 73 hours .

The contacts shown in the published image belong to a colleague of Fracaroli, who remains in Karlsruhe as his main contact.

The family and the scientific community ask for solidarity and collaboration by spreading the word on the numbers attached to the image: +34 634 64 10 75 and +49 15560587656 (this number is intended for those who speak German or English).
