197 plastic bags containing human remains have been found in the Las Agujas pit in Zapopan.

GUADALAJARA, Jalisco (apro).— Members of the Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco collective located 16 black plastic bags containing human remains on Friday in a field in Las Agujas, Zapopan. This latest discovery brings the total to 28 bags containing remains, as they found three last Tuesday and nine on Thursday.
The previous discovery was made next to a plot of land where local authorities had found 169 bags containing the remains of at least 35 people since last February. In total, there are 197 black plastic bags containing human remains.
The group's founder, Indira Navarro Lugo, reported that excavation and analysis work at the site will continue this Saturday, as the area is extensive and there is visible evidence of more bags in the area.
"Today, we continue the disposal and prospecting process at the grave on the road to Las Agujas in Zapopan. A total of 16 bags were extracted today, bringing the total to 28 since Tuesday in this same grave, which is very large. Additionally, there are also 169 remains at the site that no longer belong to us, because those bags were extracted by the state government, and work on that grave was terminated. However, we remain on the property, as there are clear indications that there are more bodies, and tomorrow we will continue processing them," Navarro Lugo explained.
One of the women on the site noted that something black could be seen, which could be more bags, and that there are no straps from the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences (IJCF). Because of this, they wanted to postpone the processing until Monday, but are looking for a way to rule out this hypothesis, as they have recovered nine bags in previous days and today, 28. She emphasized that the grave is very large and that there is still much to investigate at the site.
Navarro Lugo emphasized that three more bags were extracted from the site last Tuesday, and that the current one is approximately 15 meters away. "This property, in addition to being enormous, also contains a very large grave," he stated.
The group also discovered a grave containing charred bones, teeth, and possible evidence of an illegal crematorium on an abandoned, unfinished property in the Santa Cruz del Valle neighborhood of Tlajomulco.
"The search of the crematorium site is still pending, as is the investigation of the site where human remains were recovered on Tuesday. Some bone fragments remained at the site and were finally removed today. We are continuing with the processing work; there is still one search pending, and we will continue working," Navarro Lugo said.
The identification of this location was made possible thanks to an anonymous tip that led the activists there.
In 2025, 33 graves with 111 victims were found. It's worth remembering that the Jalisco State Attorney General's Office confirmed that 33 clandestine graves containing human remains have been processed in the state so far in 2025. According to official records, a total of more than 111 victims have been located in Jalisco this year, of which only approximately 34 have been identified.
As of May 31, 2025, the report indicates that the grave with the highest number of bodies is the one located on the road to Las Agujas, in Zapopan, where the remains of 35 people were found, of which 17 have been identified (16 men and one woman).
Of the graves discovered in 2025, 11 are still under investigation, while in 16 cases, search, location, and recovery of human remains have been completed.
Prosecutor Salvador González previously stated that in the Zapopan massacre, where the remains of 35 people have already been found, 17 have been identified through tattoos or other evidence, and that they are awaiting the results of DNA tests for confirmation.
"Regarding the graves, some are being studied. The last one, in Zapopan, is still under investigation; no more remains have been found, but approximately 35 people have been identified, 17 of whom have been identified through tattoos or other means. We are just waiting for the DNA results to confirm this," he explained.
