Agrigento 2025: Exhibition on Mary Magdalene and Women's Faith
Agrigento is ready to welcome another extraordinary event in the year of the Capital of Culture 2025. In a delicate time like the one we are living, the figure of Mary Magdalene becomes a symbol of a faith without doubts, full of hope but autonomous and aware, but also "first witness" of the Resurrection. The Agrigento2025 Foundation and the Diocesan Museum of Agrigento have built together an iconographic exhibition of great scientific and devotional value.
“The Fire of Love. Mary Magdalene. Witness to Female Hope” welcomes masterpieces from the great Italian museums, starting with the Vatican collection.
An unprecedented iconographic, biblical and cultural journey through the works of Giovanni Di Pietro from Naples, Giovanni Portaluni, Guercino, Cecco del Caravaggio, Nicolas Regnier, Mattia Preti, Pietro D'Asaro, Andrea Vaccaro, Mariano Rossi, Fra' Felice da Sambuca, Francesco Hayez, from the Vatican Museums, Palazzo Barberini, the Diocesan Museums Carlo Maria Martini in Milan and San Matteo in Terni, the National Museum of San Matteo in Pisa, Palazzo Abatellis, Fondazione Carit.
Canvases in close dialogue with works from the Archdiocese of Agrigento, arriving from Cammarata, Racalmuto, Sciacca and Sambuca di Sicilia. The exhibition, sponsored by the Dicastery for Culture of the Holy See, will be presented to the press on Saturday 5 July at 6 pm at the Diocesan Museum of Agrigento which will host it from 6 July to 30 October.
