In Nancy, Flavigny, and Lay-Saint-Christophe, nearly 500 staff members work year-round to provide rehabilitation and reeducation to patients, both children and adults. Until this summer, we're offering a behind-the-scenes look at the Regional Rehabilitation Institute through a series. This month, we're focusing on the care of amputees at the Louis-Pierquin Center in Nancy.

Seven thousand kilometers for a new life. René-Yves, who had his right tibia amputated following a motorcycle accident in late 2022 caused by a person whose liability was recognized, came from Martinique to the IRR 's Louis-Pierquin center in Nancy to be fitted with a prosthesis.

Why Nancy? "Because it's a rehabilitation center with a movement lab," the forty-year-old confides. "This lab allows for analyses that are used in legal proceedings to confirm the choice of a particular device." While there are only about ten centers of this type in France, René-Yves was directed to the Nancy facility.

But before coming to Meurthe-et-Moselle to try out different prostheses, René-Yves underwent a long process, culminating in the amputation of his limb.
