Charente-Maritime: in Jonzac, the thermal baths adapt and innovate during the summer

The spa offers a wide range of good advice and initiatives during the summer, particularly for children.
One might think that Jonzac spa guests are sheltered from the heatwave, in the heart of this troglodyte establishment nestled in the natural coolness of a former cathedral stone quarry... It's true, but that doesn't prevent the essentials and common sense. "The most important thing, even without a heatwave, as part of a spa treatment, is to stay well hydrated. In these periods of intense heat, we first inform the public by posting notices. Our nurses and care teams then raise awareness about staying well hydrated and remain ultra-vigilant in monitoring this behavior, which must be followed by everyone," recalls Séverine Gauthier, director of the Thermes de Jonzac. The young woman elaborates: "Neither the thermal treatment nor the temperatures can be modified, but we are in a temperate environment. We have the same temperatures all year round, and the troglodyte environment is, it's true, more refreshing."
Freshness assetLet's remember that the Thermes de Jonzac, which belongs to the La Chaine Thermale du Soleil group, offers three treatment options: rheumatology, respiratory tract, and phlebology. It notably boasts a vast contemporary space with a beautiful rounded swimming pool, a walking river, and newly renovated individual treatment rooms. The exterior of the site is also a refreshing asset with its green park around the lake, suitable for multiple initiatives. "Regarding our spa guests, this year we have set up a special program of activities for children with activities every Wednesday: creative workshops, manual activities, games, outdoor sports, and face painting. As part of the work carried out last year in the establishment, we also installed a children's corner in the "herbal tea room" area with a library and drawing facilities. The goal is to attract families because children also come for treatment, mainly for respiratory problems," explains the director.

There are actually around forty young people who attend the Jonzac spa during the summer. "The age groups range from toddlers to teenagers. Activities are offered to the youngest, and we have around ten places per workshop upon registration," adds Séverine Gauthier.
This summer, the thermal baths also participated in the Eurochestries classical music festival , which takes place every year for two weeks throughout the Charente-Maritime region and attracts a total of nearly 20,000 spectators. The establishment hosted the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra in its park. Finally, solidarity is also part of its roadmap, with two months of "well-being, sport and prevention" events in September and October to support the fight against breast cancer. The program includes a concert (September 19), a walk, prevention and nutrition workshops, a spa evening, a sports day, beauty treatments, and a discussion group (1).
